Yes, I'm building another tundra :lmao::lmao:

This one will be a little quicker as I need to finish it before Nationals and would like to be able to test it a bit as well.

The plan is to try and build an under 6 lb competitive C3 truck.

Big shout out to Ben (ToyZuki)!

I will be running his new G10 chassis, motor mount, skid, and transfer case.

Quick run down of what I'm planning to do:
  • XR Mod axles
  • Rear Stear (dig just doesn't quite cut it in C3)
  • Cut front fenders similar to the above trucks
  • Dovetailed bed similar to jthellfire911 and War Pig did in the above trucks
  • No CMS for better performance
  • Belly hugger look, I'll be trying to get the body as low as possible (might require some trimming of the body to stay in line with the angled skid)

I hope so! If I could get you Oregon fellers on board, I think we could fill all the podium spots with toyzuki rigs ;)

Started with a ToyZuki G10 frame and Delrin skid!


How I'm mounting my skid. Notice that the pocket for the transfer case is on the passenger side.


Got the skid on and decided that it would be easier to mock up links with a stock skid and a cross piece.


Grabbed a stock skid and cross piece from my parts box.


Assembled it up real quick. My brother decided to accidentally photo bomb this pic! :lmao:


Made some front and rear lowers using Traxxas push rods and turn buckles I had in my links box. Wheelbase I was shooting for was 13.25, I think I ended up a bit longer at 13.5. Might need to order up my upper link mounts and mock up the upper links for a true representation.

Not a whole lot going on with this build yet as I'm trying to wrap up my C1 build.

My cab arrived from Tim (War Pig)


I also spent some time monkeying around with links, trying to get the wheelbase just right and fit the look of the body.

I had these bent links from my C1 Tundra build. I added some Jato rod ends to lengthen them a bit. I'll be trying these out in the rear. How I bent Them


These damn things have been distracting me a bit:


Then I traded for some big bore shocks (thanks Justin) and added Dlux spring cups (these are really nice!)


Played around with links for a while and came up with this. Wheels/tires for mockup to get a feel for how it sits.


Decided to make the body posts for this out of brass standoffs. They needed to be ground down 1/16". Marked them with a sharpie.


Used some vise grips to hold them.


Used the belt sander and quickly took off the 1/16".


Also needed to modify my top shaft for the ToyZuki motor mount. I put it in the vice, drill the hole out with a 3/32" drill bit and then work the bit around a bit to open it enough until the drive line pin fits in.


Drive line pin fits nicely. I also removed a bit from the end so that the drive line can fit all the way on.


Used the band saw to cut the body mount plates. Much easier than using a dremel! Check out this link for how I made the rest of the body mounts.

Batteries for Nationals have arrived. Just have to swap the plugs on them. Will be swapping them out every two courses in C1 and C2 and will be swapping them out after every course in C3.


Made a simple little battery tray/mount last night. Cross posting on both build threads.

I drew a piece of .030 thick lexan that was 4" long and 1.25" wide.


Grabbed a pair of straight lexan scissors and cut out the piece.


Then I laid it down on the skid lining up the edge of the lexan with the edge of the pocket in the skid.


I marked the two rear most holes with a sharpie. Note: most people probably don't have the middle two holes in between the Axial transmission bolt pattern.


Grabbed my body reamer.


Put two holes into it.


Getting a feel for how the battery will sit on the plate.


Marking the end that I will bend up. Ended up being 5/8" from the end.


Grabbed my hand seamer and bent up the plate. The hand seamers have come in handy the past couple of weeks.


Grabbed two countersunk 10mm screws and two nuts.


Bolted on the mount.


And all finished. I will need to add some velcro to the mount to keep the battery in place.

Let the tear down begin:

I will be taking about my C3 Jeep that I have been running since the beginning of 2013. Mainly to steal the axles and servos from it.

What I really wanted from my old truck!

Here's what's left of the old chassis after being stripped. Good bye Jeep, we had a good run.


Decided to tear apart the front axle and check on everything. It's been several years since these axles were apart.

Internals checked out, looked great. I ended up replacing all the bearings on the knuckles as they looked a little worn.

Grabbed my Toyzuki truss. These are really nice, I like the multiple mounting holes for adjustability.

I managed to get one of the old VP servo/4-link plates from Justin that I will be using in the rear. Thanks Justin!

Things I need to fix.
  • Redo the pan hard bar with a bend to clear the axle housing
  • Clock the c-hubs way back in the rear
  • Switch out the XR10 knuckles for wraith knuckles

Thanks! I try and take as many pics as I can to show the process, but sometimes you just get in a groove and forget to take pics.

It is, I'm hoping this build is a lot easier as I've worked out most of the kinks with the other one.

Didn't get a whole lot done on this, but I did reclock the C-hubs on the rear axle and switch out the XR10 knuckles for Wraith knuckles.

No matter what I do, my workbench ends up looking like this:


Reclocked the rear C-Hubs, but then the drag link was hitting the servo.




Moved the drag link to under the ackerman arms, much better!
