Class One Tundra by VMGontheRocks

Not a whole lot happening with this truck as I get the other Tundra running. I did fix the servo and finish converting the axles back over to SCX10 housings. Ordered up a pair of brass beef tubes for the front and delrin beef tubes for the rear that should be here in the next week or two. Thanks Chris!
 
Got this RC4WD dash




I'm really impressed with the details. I might have to grab another one of these for the C3.
 
Since I busted my servo wire, my old bypass plug wasn't long enough, so I made a new one.

Pulling out all the servo wires and tools.


All done!


Just needs a zip tie or two and it's ready for more testing!
 
Bed cutout and mocked up on the truck.

Had to add these notches to fit around the hand hold. Took me a few tries to perfect it.


Testing the fitment of everything.

Started gluing the wheel tubs.

Got sick of styrene so I bent up the interior cage for the C3.


Started making the truck bed bottom.


Test fitting everything.


Wheel tub complete! Now I have to cut this thing...

Using some precut strips I added some detail to the bed.


Side pieces all bonded to the bed!

I've made quite the mess!


And ready for some minor sanding and then paint!
 
Needed to whip up some light weight seats that were a little smaller than the previous ones I made.

Got out the 2mm foam and started cutting the bolsters


That should be enough!


Scrap foam, I like to always make a straight cut for the straight edge portion of the bolster. Makes cutting them out way easier.


Orange foam for the center section. Can you guess which color I'm painting the truck!

Started on a rear bumper


It had promise, but after some more work, some bad cuts and no patience I gave up and made this:


Made some aluminum brackets to mount the bed to:


Finished the front bumper (just added the two down bars on either side of the plate.


Started on the headache rack. Just need to figure out how to mount it to the bed.
 
My custom brass wheel weights arrived. I got weights to fit SLW .225 hubs and two pairs that have .125 spacing between the SLW hub and the wheel face so I can keep the standard SLW offsets.





And my scale plates have been made!

Really like how these install. No need to drill extra holes!

Headache rack/roll bar finished up:

I struggled to figure out how to mount it and then just went with two flat pieces of brass that bolt into the bed.

Bought this case off amazon, fits the 4 PL pretty nicely. May use it when I travel to Arizona. I bought it for my 4PK to fit the drop wheel.

Starting the prep work:


All ready to take to the paint booth:


Laid down some primer:


After two light coats of Krylon fusion satin. I'm using this as a base layer.


Sprayed some paint samples:


From left to right:






Then I decided to take the Rustoleum Sienna mist and top coat it over the orange Krylon Fusion:


I think that's what I will go with.

For the bed I started with this paint:

I'm basically using it as an adhesion promotor.

Then I used this primer to help hide any imperfections:


Then bed liner:


Part of the bed liner started to wrinkled, I wiped it off and it took off all the layers of paint. I'm thinking I either didn't wait long enough or one of the paints didn't agree with the other. I think in the future I would do a few coats of the fusion, wait 7 days and then hit it with the bed liner.

For the brass I used this primer:

More painting. Cabs after a few coats. I started with pretty light coats and then after a few coats started spraying it on a little thicker. I'm waiting about 30 minutes between coats and doing all painting within a 24 hour window.

All the painted brass work and some Toyzuki 4-link mounts:

I'm going to add another coat to everything but the front bumpers and toyzuki parts.

Inbetween coats I got sick of styrene work (interior) so I narrowed a boss claw!:
