Derek West Ultra4

One of my favorite things about this forum it that it allows people who are natural born makers to share their creations with the people who will appreciate their work. Nice job man those trucks look awesome. I showed them to my nephew and now he wants to learn how to build one of his own.

Man those look fantastic. "thumbsup"

Cheers,
Wade

Awsome trucks, like them both. "thumbsup"

Thanks guys ! I was nervous to take the plunge and scratch build a rig for myself about 4 years ago but i just took ideas from other great builders on this forum, watched how to videos like brazing on YouTube and learned what did and didn't work by trial and error. Best advice is to not get frustrated when things don't work and learn from them, PLAN AHEAD when scratch building you have to think of everything and how it will work together like steering servo placement and how you need clearance for it during suspension travel, link geometry and shock mount placement as it will define how the truck will handle with the suspension travel as if done improperly can cause binding ( which I learned myself the hard way ) well anyway I hope you guys take the plunge too and make one for yourself which is much more gratifying to be able to have a one of a kind rig and say it's built and not bought !

Took it out for it's maiden voyage and broke it in yesterday with my oldest daughter and the truck I made for her. So glad she likes doing this stuff ! Well at least until she's a teen anyway ! Lol...

I took a few photos and i should have a video up soon.

I still need to strengthen the mount for my steering ram as you'll notice in the video when I get it posted up. It will bend up on one side when under a high load which causes the steering to toe in on itself. I know what I need to do to fix it and it should work great when I do fix it, I just need to do it !

So here is a link to the video

So last weekend I made it out to Attica Indiana from Northern Ohio to Badlands offroad park for the Ultra4 race for the third year in a row. As usual I was not disappointed, with awesome rigs, awesome race , awesome people and awesome after party with the race teams I won't ever forget ! Those guys love to party and let loose after the race.

Some photos of my mini Disco Derek Ultra4 ( his nickname is disco because he loves to dance and party ) but anyway all the race teams were eating up the scale Ultra4 I made for my brother and myself taking tons of photos and even video.

Here is a link to the video I took which has some pre running, qualifing, the race and some rc play time my brother with his Millermotorsports and my Derek West Ultra4 cars on parts of the race course the 1:1 ran on prior to the race.
