I'm interested in building my first kit. I have a yeti setup as my go fast basher and a CR Rubicon for my scaler. I want to build something for in between these 2 rigs I can mess with. My lady went crawling with us this weekend and looks like she'll be moving in on the action with my Rubi.lol I really liked the capability of my friends wraith and was already thinking of building one but then I saw the rr10 bomber is avail in a kit now. Are there distinct differences in the wraith vs the bomber? One better than the other in any aspects? I'm leaning toward 2.2 crawler more than speed with it and not sure which, if either, is a better platform to start with. Which rig would you push me towards and why?

Wraith makes an excellent crawler. I have 3 and never get tired of driving them.

The only thing I noticed with the Bomber is that the rear trailing arms get hung up a bit more often than the Wraith links. Other than that they are very comparable in crawling ability. I prefer the looks of the Bomber plus the steel transmission gears and upgraded links and diff gears in the kit are a nice bonus.

So the wraith spawn kit doesn't have those upgraded? I thought all the kits came with the upgraded stuff, links, shocks, HD beveled gears, etc.

The Spawn kit only has upgraded lower links (not the new design though) and shocks. No upgraded diff gears, upper links or steering links.

Is it possible to swap the bomber trailing arm for the wraith style lower link and move the lower shock to the axle? I just checked out the upgraded links, they look pretty nice. How about a front mount battery on the spawn body? How do you access it on a full bodied wraith? My friends wraith has the aluminum panels so it's easy to deal with. Front mount battery is pretty much a must on anything I would crawl with.

Interesting, wromber huh. I don't see how the spawn body mounts in pics. Gna have to search a bit for em.

Ive owned both and sad to say i sold the bomber cause i felt like a had to put some money into it to get it on my wraith level. Now its out in a kit and im picking me up another one. Not owning either, you will be very happy with the bomber.

It seems like the only negative for the bomber is the rear lower links. The bomber has better upgrades in the kit plus the forward battery with easy access. The more I've read the more I realized how similar they are. I was interested in learning how to paint a body but maybe I'll do that on a different rig.

That sums it up pretty well. The Bomber body panels would be a good introduction to painting lexan, they're a lot easier than a full shell.

Straight out of the box, the Bomber should be a bit more durable due to having all hardened tranny gears (the Wraith has a plastic one in there), hardened ring/pinion gears in the axles (the Wraith has pot metal gears), a new knuckle design, and all metal links (the Wraith has plastic uppers). Those are easy to fix on the Wraith with upgrades if it falls within your budget. The Bomber also has a completely different tranny that is upgradable to a 2-speed, though the skid gets in the way a bit more than the Wraith's.

Ultimately, both platforms are very capable and a blast to drive. My advice would be to go with whichever one has the looks you like and then work on the setup to suit your driving style and typical conditions. Hope that helps!

Clarification: since the OP was talking about kits, the above applies only to the kit versions.

Is it possible to use the wraith interior with the bucket seats in the bomber? I've been looking around for my own drivers/passengers for my rigs instead of the molded bodies with helmets.

Nope, the Bomber transmission is way too big to accommodate the original Wraith interior.
