Hey Guys,
Some of you might remember that I personally offered to kiss someone's ass if they were able to take a stock transmission and turn it ONE rotation without having any eccentricity/binding ....
I'm happy to say that I have finally consternated of this issue and found a solution ... Its fairly simple .... I used my dremel to complete this task... with a 9$ diamond etching , reinforced cut off wheel. one 3mm washer and two drill bits

For your own personal test hold the output shaft tight and turn the gear .. the amount of excess play is Ridiculous !!
ON~SIZED GEAR PINS
34 tooth transmission gear AX31228
transmission output shaft AX31064

~requires~ a 7/64 drill bit
The first step I took was installing the drill bit backwards into my drill so the blank was sticking out ... Then I used 180 grit to sand it down a bit so it (almost fits ) in the output shaft bore . Then I took my drill with the plank still in place and lightly bored with the blank with lubricant ....
IF YOU USE THE DRILL BIT TO RESIZE THE HOLE THE CONVENTIONAL WAY IT WILL BE TOO BIG
next cut the drill plank approximately 12mm .. The first time I carefully pressed the pin in place and trimmed it to fit.. Now I clamp the saved pin in my vice and use the cutoff ..
now its time to trim / berm the gear pocket to fit our new on sized . I used my dremel bit with oil to hone out the pocket a little at a time until I could start the pin into the orifice.. At this point I finished honing the pocket with the drill bit blank /drill..
end result a
TIGHT pin/shaft fitment
&
TIGHT pin/gear pocket fitment

19 tooth transmission gear AX31226
slipper shaft AX31063
~requires a 3/32 drill bit
Same plan of action as stated above "thumbsup"
~ final conclusion ~
After I noticed how SLOPPY the pin to shaft and pin to gear it started making sense why my idler gear was taking such a beating (3 blown transmissions ) ALL had the idler gear blown out of the bottom..
Having sloppy gears on each side of it seemed like a loosing battle ... Especially when I started thinking about the conflicting forces from motor inertia on one side and terrain/traction forces on the other side of that poor idler gear..
SO... I think the deflection causes the gears to miss mesh in turn spitting the little idler gear out of the bottom of the case .. "thumbsup"

Correct assembly order
After I assembled the modified transmission it still had a notchy feeling that I was trying to ale.... So I started to loosen one screw at a time wile turning the slipper shaft .. I noticed one screw that really caused a issue so I modified a 3mm washer to fit inside the case as a spacer and re assembled the case..
NO MORE BINDING "thumbsup""thumbsup" FREE SPINNING LIKE A FISHING REEL "thumbsup"
I'll post a pictures soon "thumbsup"
I NOW have faith in the XL Stock transmission "thumbsup"

What?:?::?::???:

Where is the DANG video and photos?!?!?! You're spending WAY too much time figuring things out and not enough time documenting them!!! LOL!!

Sorry YOU can't entertain a thought with your educated mind or accept that I'm JUST TRYING TO FKN HELP ... I guess I could just post lipo excerpts and be a RCC ledged like yourself ... Have you gone to my youtube page ? I've posted like 30 videos in 3 months... All for free to help people out... as well as free HD pinion mods... What have you done to help ???? And why do I get shit for helping ... I'll never fn understand...I guess it takes a educated mind to figure that one out.. And if I'm coming off as a dick..that's because I'm loosing my mom.. I do this to try to distract my self from my reality... Thanks

Hi Josh, bought those Cobalt drill bits from Napa... and watched your video, was very helpful! Can't seem to shave any thickness off these bits. Used 80 and 180 grit to no avail.... any other ideas? How long did you sand it for before you had it down to size?

I'd try using the drill ; spinning the bit against the grain of a mill file ..
I've been using HSS bits for the transmission and cobalt for the drivetrain..( wheel hex pins , driveshaft pins, dog bone replacements)

i can try that... cobalt should be fine for trans right? or would u recommend hss? i think cobalt is more of a hardened steel isn't it? thanks buddy

Sure is but I've noticed that pins always broke closest to the wheels and it seems like the forces break down throughout the drivetrain... also having a tight fitment will reduce the chances of shearing off a pin...

The transmission pin mod is aimed at reducing the pin /shaft/gear pocket slack.. not so much for pin reinforcement... although once one weak link is eliminated it will fall on the next weakest point.. I'm really satisfied with the durability of my XL
I've been running 6s packs dead without the Axial Walk of Shame !! What a awesome feeling.. no more stripped out hubs or breaking pins... the wax diff mod on the front and silly putty in the back is awesome..

Re: You need to take a step back and chill - bro!
