2.2 Wheel Suggestion for SSD

Another shot, BFGoodrich Baja KR2 and Interco Super Swamper side by side (both from Pro-Line). The BFGoodrich is slightly larger, due in part to the firm(er) foam in the BFGoodrich bloating it a bit.

EDIT: After trying a smaller and softer foam in the BFGOodrich, the diameter is the same as the Super Swamper, but the BFGoodrich is still just a little wider.

My width issue is with the tire manufactures, not the wheel makers.

A 38mm wide rim on a 9th scale rig is 13.5" scale width!!! That's just crazy and nobody runs a rim that wide in 1:1. Where as a 1" wide rim would be 9" wide on a 1:1 and everybody runs 8-10" wide rims in 1:1.

The latest pro-line 2.2 release of the BFG all terrain is a much better width and I hope the scale tire manufactures start making the scale tires narrower.

Not sure how much smaller they'll be, but here they are on the 1.4" (36mm) wide Faultline and what appear to be the 1.4" (36mm) wide Denali 2.2" wheels from Pro-Line. But it's hard to see how much smaller it is in those pics.

Did you have a particular diameter and width in mind? RC4WD has a 5.5" tall Genius tire that's only 1.56" wide, but it's a tall and skinny tire. Got a set on my SSD stamped steel 10-hole.

I meant to post these nearly 2 weeks ago. for some, the 2.2 Genius tires below may be too tall for their width, but they're a super soft compound, have deep lugs and wide spacing so they should work well in sloppy deep mud

These wheels are wide and have delrin rings. The offset is designed to be compatible with high steer knuckles.

No they don't, I have two full sets of these wheels and one set is wrapped with P-L Flat Iron XL tires and the other with P-L BFG KR2 tires...no issues. It's not as quick as mounting them to non P-L tires, but nonetheless work perfectly.

You're right. I re-read it after coming back in because I picked up a set of these wheels.

Now to find a tire.

I'm having a hell of a time getting flat irons on these wheels. Any suggestions?
It seems like the stock memory foams are too big.

That's your problem, gotta use CI DD foams. The stock marshmallows are ridiculously huge!

I got them on there. It was tough, but I did it. I need to learn which foams to use where. Time to google.

Recently purchased the proline tsl XL tires and without doing my homework I purchased the ssd assassin wheels and basically wasted $100.00. Even with the DD 2stage foams the tires are nearly impossible to mount. After a short test run the setup has proven to be wobbly and unacceptable. The ssd's are great looking wheels however one of my brand new wheels in the pack came with a ding on the face. I seriously doubt I'll be a ssd customer in the future.

They may also recommend a different size foam, it can be tricky getting the right size for certain wheel/tire combos. You can always sand down the foams with a Dremel and a sanding drum, per their help page (which also gives tips on modifying foam for narrow wheels, etc):

Are you using stock foams? If so, that's your problem.

They mount up great. Several people have them mounted and you can some pictures of them in the this thread.
