What did you do to/with your Ascender today

Hmmm.... I have heard that Savox are more prone to causing brown-outs than an all-things-equal servo from most other mfg... My 20KG cheapo DS3218 servo is specced at:

"Stall Torque (5V): 19 kg/cm (263.8oz/in) Stall Torque (6.8V): 21.5 kg/cm (298.5 oz/in) Speed : 0.16 sec/60°(5V) / 0.14 sec/60°(6.8V) Operating Voltage: 4.8 ~ 6.8 DC Volts"

and is silent and performs without any issues running off of 6.0v. At $18 and change including a (slightly too thick) aluminum servo horn, I am very happy with it.

I suppose if it has a flaw, it's that it's somewhat slower in response than most - but for the dough, can't complain!

I'll likely be picking up a Hudy servo horn to correct some suspension travel issues caused partly by such an overbuilt servo arm, however.

I can reuse that horn in another rig, though - it's a clamping type and very strong.

I also run those servos. I have been very happy with them. My friend's TRX4 servo died, so we put my spare DS3218 in and he was impressed by it. He swapped it for a Savox 1211SG and actually said he felt the DS3218 seemed stronger.

I have two generic 'china' ds3215's due in the mail today - will post up if they arrive and how they look/work.
They are $12.99 shipped from AliExpress. But take a month to arrive.
I ordered 2 of them.

I got mine from eBay in 3 days! I might try the 23kg waterproof version. It's twice the price but still cheaper than everyone else

I was just catching up on this servo talk and peeked at the WP version. Amazon "says" the version you guys are talking about can be to me today still with prime so I may just pull the trigger and then coat the electronics myself. I've wasted $20 in way worse ways in my life..

Thanks for the tip I didn't know they had the 20kg WP on Amazon. I just ordered a couple for spares.

I get mine through Amazon prime, and the DS3218 is definitely waterproof. I have had my truck completely submerged, and even upside down in water with no issues. Only extra "waterproofing" I have done is shrink tube over the extension connection.

Got my replacement set of heavy duty weighted beadlocks, so I was finally able to get my Hyrax tires onto a complete set. Can't wait to get it back out on the trails now.

Before with what I call mall crawler wheels ;-)

The bead seems held much better with these wheels.

A bit more sidewall bulge compared to the lighter wheels

Installed some Axial light buckets for future illumination needs. Thanks to HumboldtEF for the inspiration / how-to guide...

Took Walter and Jeffery for a trip out to the trails...

And managed to snap the pin on the output shaft to the front dif.. "THIS AGGRESSION WILL NOT STAND, MAN!!!"

Guess some new MIPs may be in order... Because why waste a good crisis...

**Quick update. Only the pin was sheared. Amazing what you can do when you have a spare body pin, a set of side cutters and a few dental pics to take off the spring... We are back in business... Can save that $$$ on the MIPs for now and get some new shocks / sway bar set-up / wheels...**

Arrma pins work..recent posts on it...

Rig looks great!

Thanks bud!

I am but a neophyte to the world of R/C scalers / crawlers, but I seem to have found a place to call home... And another hobby to pour unreasonable amounts of time and $$$ into...

I will look into the Arrma pins. I was lucky to think of the body clips before I hit "Buy Now" earlier tonight. "thumbsup"

Moved floating battery tray (via velcro straps) and spun the steering servo to accommodate my soon-to-be-arriving BPC battery tray.

Finished the axles on my discounted K5 kit. Have the frame built, powertrain done, steering servo and ESC mounted. Just waiting on my new receiver.

Moved the BPC battery tray to this build from my K10 and installed the Fish's Crawler high clearance mount to it as well...

Put some limiters in the shocks... Had some SS tubing left over from an A-arm sleeving job and figured it couldn't hurt to try...

Don't try... They bound up hard when testing the shocks... At least in my case they did...

Cool, but use plastic or rubber, metal can move up and down the shock shaft scratch the metal and then your seals will leak.

Don't overfill the shocks and should be fine. "thumbsup"

druz Jr. was sick as a dog today....

After further inspection, the driveshaft MAY have been the
binding" culprit...

So it wasn't the shock limiters, it was someone who had a few too many during the driveshaft build and may have gotten them not lined up just right.

DERP!

Other than that, got the prelim wiring done and essentially have a chassis that moves under its own power at the moment. Tweaking some radio and ESC settings and looking into paint options.

It always bugged me that the angle of the cab of the K10 didn't match the bed so I took my old body and cut out 3mm from the upper support

0g6XYipl.jpg

I left the middle alone so that the panels could stay the same and I added a 5mm spacer on the lower portion of the cage

oQO1GcLl.jpg

my body is a bit beat up so those numbers might be better as a rough guide

Tilting the cage up meant that the body post in back were moved back so I took a lighter to the cage and heated and bent it forward as best as I could. I have 2 bodies so I didn't want to move the mounts on the chassis.

I'm pleased with the results

I have tried to make my own build thread tonight and life has me so borked in the head at the moment, I have managed to delete / hit the back button / just screwed it up and deleted the whole thing so many times, I just no longer have any craps left to give.

Anywho, I got my "Clearance Rack" rolling chassis wiring cleaned up. Here are the deets:
Hobbywing QuicRun 1080 ESC
RC4WD 35t Crawler motor
DS3218 20KG Large Torque Digital Servo
Ikonnik Xenon 4c RX and ET4 TX (had TX from a Helion 4SC Select)
BPC Battery mount w/ winch setup
Fish's Crawler Parts high clearance motor / tranny mount

Donnie from my "Little Lebowski Urban Achievers" K-10 decided to photo bomb the build.

SCVunmq.jpg

Need to sort out my ESC to motor wiring (yup, those are crimp connectors at the moment, don't hate), finish up the bumpers / sliders and work on the torque steer issue (outboarding and collaring the rear shocks as well as a rear sway bar), and figure out how to get the color combo I want on the body.

Fish's Crawler Parts high clearance motor / tranny mount

I've done that a few times too, I've started to copy my posts as I make really long ones as a sort of save function.

I'm curious what the FCP skid is doing (its hard to find on their facebook page), is it raising the tranny or what?
And I assume from the body mounts it a blazer, is that right?

Didn’t think I needed to do a separate thread since this one seems to get the most action but does anybody know if they are coming out with a new Ascender anytime soon. I love mine but i would definitely buy a new one if they do. Stock the Ascender platform is awesome but with a couple little changes they could come out with something that would be hard to beat.
