Have tech questions? Will answer.

Well crap wish I would have known that. Did realize that's what the JST option was when I placed my order.

Newbie here.

Why can’t “they” build an ESC that is Bluetooth enabled, has heat sensors, and has a proper BEC onboard? The App possibilities could be amazing. I know castle has Bluetooth dongle, an app and external BEC however it would be nice to compact it all into one device.
It seems like the ESC world is still in dial up when the rest of the world is on fibre optic.

Castle's Mamba X line already has temp sensors (motor temp sensors only apply to *sensored* motors) and proper BECs built in (not including the Micro X), plus data logging and aux wires, but I agree it is a cool idea to have the Bluetooth built in.

Robert from Castle has talked before .
Words like price point and unit sales pop into my mind. Research and Development also pop up. I would suspect a minuscule market is the decision maker

They can, but probably believe most people wouldn't pay the extra cost. I am one of the people who wouldn't pay the cost. Bluetooth seems gimmicky to me, I haven't had a need to adjust settings on the fly, I pretty much set it up and maybe once or twice change a setting, but defiantly not on a regular basis enough to demand Bluetooth.

A better BEC in the ESC can potentially over power the receiver if you have a high amp draw servo, so its best to use a BEC after the servo.

The issue is that people want Chinese pricing from US made goods. Hobbywing can do it for 1/4 the cost and sell at Castle prices, but Castle can’t add costs and keep within the market expectation of price against hobbywing. Our customer drives the market and also neuters domestic progress with price sensitivity.

"High development costs" minus "large economies of scale" equals "work with what you've got".

Seriously, what does anyone need a bluetooth-enabled ESC for? I'm sure someone, somewhere, will want to adjust their ESC in the middle of a drive, but most RCers are not that crazy and pedantic.

Work on a bomber once in your life, then you will understand the need for Bluetooth ESCs...

Damn cage

This solved it for me

Except on the bomber, you need to have this thing hanging out in the cockpit or near the fuel cell to use it.

There is no access to the RX box or ESC or motor without removing like 12 screws and the shocks.

Hello all, just wundering if anybody can help me, I have a FS-GT3C and want to set it to use on my scania r620 highline truck with a tamiya MFC-03. Does anybody here know the settings to use as I have no idea and it is getting annoying

I have a Wraith, so I know the pain of working in a vehicle with an integrated rollcage. The transmission is a huge pain in the ass to get to, but the ESC is easy -- four screws to remove the hood, and then I can plug in the programming card. Maybe you've just got your Bomber built wrong? ;-)

Seriously though, if your ESC is in an inaccessible location, just buy a spare patch cable, leave it plugged into the ESC at all times, and zip-tie the loose end somewhere where it won't flop around but it's easy to retrieve when you need to connect the program card. This solution costs $3 compared to god-knows-how-much for a whole new ESC with a bluetooth radio built-in and a halfassed app that the ESC manufacturer hired an intern to slap together at the last minute.

Yeah I tried the extra cable method but the pin on the hobbywing 1080 are a very loose fit, any bump and the program cable disconnects...

Maybe it's better on a Mamba x

Looking to upgrade the powertrain on my 3s RTR Bomber. Currently sitting in the 8 lb range but planning to be probably 10+ by spring. Definitely focused on technical crawling ability, converting to a Wraith transmission with dig. I'll likely be going for the HH BR-XL since I would prefer to be brushed...unless someone can convince me otherwise. Would a Torquemaster 550 be a good match?

Related question: Is 4s brushed worth considering?

550 brushed for sure, I would stay on 3s to crawl...
Crawlmaster for top of top
Trailmaster Sport for the budget conscious and put more money into something else like a high end servo

I love most of Holmes hobbies products, but I wont be buying any of his current esc's for crawling. only the mamba X esc's and the HW1080 for brushed, that I know of have the ability hold a controllable speed on a steep downhill drive. My ble pro feels like driving an automatic vs a manual transmission. once the brake is released (gving the car 5% throttle) gravity pulls it down hill and the motor does nothing to slow it down. where the HW1080 and mamba x, like a manual transmission feels like it uses to motor to slow the decent while at 5% throttle.

also the cheaper HW1080 has pwm options to quiet things down.

Mostly you don't get a throttle curve with the HW1080 and I am OK with that.

I have a 10t crawlmaster 550 I drive on 4s it doesn't get hot at 100:1 and has plenty of torque. Probably wears out the brushes fast, but I'm still on my first set after a few months.
