The unofficial official axial portal buggy.

This is as far as I was able to get tonight...

Finally have my motor decided...but, before I get it ordered, I have a wheel question.

If I'm to stick with 1.9 wheels, what are the best aluminum options (probably from SSD, Vanquish, RC4WD) that will fit properly on the Capra (considering the portals)?

I forgot to mention I can stuff this 2200mah 3s zippy pack in the battery tray. There’s not room left for a fart but it fits.

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/zippy-compact-2200mah-3s-25c-lipo-pack.html

The website lists it at 107mm but I’m measuring it to be a couple mm shorter than that

Thanks. I may have to pick some up.

I bet I could squeeze a fart in there beside your battery.
Just picked mine up today at the LHS.
All the YT vids has me convinced, so I caved.

Any suggestions for a budget friendly TX with a 3 position 3rd channel?

Congrats! The FlySky GT-5 works. I was setting up my dig with that transmitter. The only problem is the 3-position toggle switch seems low quality. The detents aren't that great so you have to take care in moving the switch, but other than that it works fine.

Will you be creating a full build review thread?

Surprised a Capra section hasn't been created yet.

Yes, I'll do a build thread as soon as the Capra section is created.

And mine is finally in its way.... Now what to build first... I have quite a back log going.

Congrats! Interested to see your build.

This is what I’m using as well, I really like the controller and the interface for making adjustments. I’m using channel 3 for the dig, which is just a button that’s on the handle of the controller. Working pretty well once end points were set.

I'm using the 3-position toggle switch that I circled in the photo below. Is that what you're using?

It’s 2, either on/off. When setting the end points you just click the button once and it switches to the other side.

Ah so you're setting it up to have 4WD or locked rear? I want 3-position - AWD, locked rear and open rear. I've never used a dig before, but I'm thinking the open rear would be great for trying to climb steep hills. Start in FWD so that it doesn't roll over backwards. As Rich stated somewhere in this thread, it's very tight between open rear and locked rear.

Correct, just 4wd and locked rear. Is open rear possible with this Dig? This is my first one too, and I’d like to have the 3 options like you noted.

Three position is possible, that's the way mine is set up. I put it on a lever with 100% steps resulting in just three positions for the servo, 100, 0, and -100. Once the endpoints were set it was just a matter of dialing in the center point.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Sounds like I have some tinkering to do. "thumbsup"

Thanks for the info. I know Ultra RC (YouTube channel) set his up on a 3-way switch, but he didn't include how he did the settings. Gotta remember that when it's time to start programming. Now...back to building.

My end points were more like 55, 0 and -8 or something crazy like that. It takes barely any movement to go from open rear to locked. Did you notice the same thing?

Yeah, my endpoints are similar, and my center is some non-zero setting. The 100, 0, -100 are the positions on the actual transmitter lever that trigger the servo. Using an Airtronics M12.

Thanks, Jato. Just curious, but what Tx are you using?

Thx Jato for clearing that up.
Flysky looks like a solid way to go.
And reasonably easy for a newb (me) to setup.

In researching, some TX dont specify whether they're a 3 position 3rd Ch. Others look like a 2 position but arent, like the Tactic TTX300, an even cheaper option. The 3rd channel appears to only have 2 buttons, but can be run with 3 or 4 positions. This article describes the features as well as setup instructions.

I left off with mine built up, just left the cage off and need to figure out all the wiring now. I noticed that the Mamba X Micro and a receiver are small enough to fit on the back of that battery tray plate that lets you adjust the size.

Yeah my center isn't a true 0 either. It's set to something different.

I think it's a great budget transmitter. And it's pretty darn easy to setup. Binding is simple and quick although they still use a bind plug, which I always seem to lose, rather than a button on the receiver like some other brands. And the menus are pretty easy to navigate and pretty self explanatory. But if not there are tons of people that own it and could help answer your questions if that time ever comes.
