SWEEEEEET !!!
I really like the stance.

The wheels are SSD steel wheels and the tires are RC4WD Mickey Thompson Baja Claws.

Here's a head on shot.

Nice. So they’re 1.9 then.

1.9s on 2.2 wheels...

I took it out for a short shakedown after a hike. It wasn't my usual spot, so I was limited in what I could do. Also, the leaves made traction nearly unobtainable at times.

I really forgot how bad the ground clearance under those SCX10 axles was. The steering also left much to be desired even after underdriving the rear axle.

This run did answer several questions:

Is this as capable as a stock Capra? Absolutely not.
Is there room for improvement? Yes.
Will I make those improvements? Not now. Too many other projects.
Is it fun to drive? Yes.
Knowing what I know now, would I still build one? No regrets.

Here are a few pics.

The stubby Puller Pro has tons of drag brake.

Also, the HPI Venture shocks are excellent. Paired with some Traxxas soft springs, these are the perfect combo for this rig.

This is now the second one ive seen. The first one i came across was using xr44 axles.

I'm strongly considering a set of SSD AR44 portals, but that will widen the track width. If I widen the track width, I'll want to lengthen the wheelbase. I'm afraid that I'll end up with the dimensions of a stock Capra (or at least pretty close) and that wasn't what I was after with this build.

It would be nice to get some ground clearance though.

From what I understand, the AR44 axles should be approx 1" narrower without portals, and approx 0.5" narrower with portals, than the stock Capra axles. Built my first Capra stock, and my second will have AR44 F9 axles w/ portals.

Dont run the portals if you want to keep it more proportionable. Yours looks awesome the way it is.

I'm also toying with the idea of just swapping out the SCX10 axles for some AR44s. That would help immensely with the steering and ground clearance issues.

Ideas are always popping into my head. That's why I can't ever finish anything.

I bought a Vanquish chassis and Stealth-X transmission for my Trail Honcho. That's still partially assembled on my bench. I also have a VFD transmission for my VS4-10 that I have not gotten around to building yet.

Slap that vfd and some ar44s under the goat. Well, if the vfd will fit lol.

That's a negative. Although, the 3 gear transmission from my VS4-10 will end up in this Capra since it has metal gears.

I should have known better than to say that. I picked up a used set of AR44s and swapped them in. I also took the Hyrax tires from my other Capra when I replaced them with the Goodyear MT/Rs and put them on this one. I still need to get the steering sorted out, but I can already tell that I'll have more steering angle with the dogbones in the AR44s than I had with the old AX10 axles. I know universals are in this truck's future, it's just a matter of when. I do need to get my VFD trans swapped into my VS4-10 so that I can repurpose the Vanquish 3 gear trans into this truck. A brushless motor and those old plastic gears aren't a good combination.
