I need a new MTB!

ok, so seeing here how everyone like to ride, I thought I would gather some advice. i would like to get a new bike. Right now, I have a trek 4300, stock that cant take anything. I would like a bike to free ride, and DH. REI has some pretty good stuff.

I would like
full suspension (rear lock out would be amazing)
Front susp. (front lock out of they make it)
Frame that can take a beating. 3-6 ft. drops, jumps, mud, etc
Less than maybe $700

For jumps that high I'd put "1" (or maybe even "2" if you want the thing to last) in front of the number you suggested .

It might also be bikes are a lot cheaper in US than in Europe...?

Are you looking to be free riding a bike? Your going to need to spend more then 700$ for that type of riding...realistically. I wouldnt advise locking out any suspension bike that your going to be dropping 3-6 feet...it wont last long

bottom line....You have to spend more $$ It's like wanting a comp worthy TLT and wanting to spend 70$ for it.

$1,500 should get you in that door. look at Jamis or Giant for the good deals

How much do you weigh? Height?

If you want a bike that will last, and have a limited amount of money to spend, you would be much better off getting a mid range hardtail than a bottom end full squish.

Im about 5' 10" and 120. if you go to REI, they have a canondale full susp. for 900.

If you like REI stuff, the K2 lithium is cool.

I ride a Turner 5 spot and love it, I run a DHX 5.0 Air with propedal (enertia sensative lock out) and I have a Talas 32 XX upfront that has the enertia lock out too. I do not like this feature on th front at all. (I also have a Vanilla 32 RL, whick I never lock out, and this fork is much nicer to ride on rough trails).

We have two K2 bikes in the garage, a Tirade 4.0 (yes, my 110lbs wife rides a 6" free ride bike) and a K2 Attack 1.0 that my father in-law rides. Both K2s have served us very well.

An Atack should be able to put up with what you want to do.

You're going to want to put much more than $700 into the bike you're talking about. Now me, I'm hard on bikes, but I've slowed down a little in my old age. I've also taken to breaking my brother's bikes, since most of the time when I break one any more I'm riding with him. The only bike he's put me on in two years that I haven't broken was a Ti 29er that I can't remember the frame brand of to save my tired @$$ right now. But then he's got about $5500 wrapped up in that ride. I personally have a GT Zascar Race (hard tail) that I ride around here - there are no mountains in MidTN. It suits my needs, and holds up well, the downside being that GT has been out of business for some time now. Bottom line - if I was going to move back to the mountains and buy a new full suspension bike to abuse, it would be a Ti 29er. YMMV. MNSHO.
