Damaged lipo???

Long story short my rig rolled and hit directly on my lipo. I have a 3 cell with small shims between the cells and it hit right between them. The pack literally has a dent in it where it hit. you can see the top cell is bent inward right in the middle. It ran the rest of the day till it hit the cut off. I pulled it out to charge it and saw the damage. I know where it happened and it lasted a bout a hour longer.

I recharged it for giggle's outside in a lipo bag. Temp never went up, took a full charge I even ran it awhile. Part of me dont trust it so it went back in the lipo bag then. I dont know enough about them to take to many chance's.

Is it toast? should I be worried about it? If its shot how do I dispose of it?

I would not trust it in my rig considering that if it does go up, it could take every plastic part of the truck with it. Lipos are very sensitive. Just because it didnt catch fire then dont mean it wont. I would just go ahead and take it to the nearest battery shop like batteries plus or something like that and see if they can dispose of it for you. Just my 2 cents.

If the pack isn't punctured it shouldn't be a problem. My pack has a couple of "dents" in it, and it's never been a problem. Note: I always charge in a LiPo sack, and I store all my LiPo's in a fireproof box. Continue to be careful with it, but I doubt it needs replacing. In the event you do decide to dispose of it, you don't need to go a battery store. Just hook it up to a light bulb or something, and completely discharge it. Then put it in a bucket of salt water for 48 hours. When you take it out, it will be completely neutralized, and you can just put it in the trash - it's environmentally safe at that point.

I too have a little damage to mine. No issue as long as you started with a good lipo!

I had a pack that we cut into pieces with an axe, no excitement like you guys talk. I also have one that folded on me in my Pede, again no excitement, and it still works great. Also have seen them swelled, so hot you can't touch, dented, smashed, still no excitement. I have seen sub c's do more damage.

Lipos are not as explosive as people think. Does it happen?? Yes, I have seen it at one of out comps. But tons of people run them with no problems. Most of the accidents are caused by inproper charging. All of my packs have dents in them.

you guys think that is nuts i ran a 3 cell with the cut off for a 2 cell it epxandid and then i took it out side and started to throw it up in the air and chuked it at the ground still nothing but just wait then i cut it up with a pair of diks and it didnt do any thing im starting to think that lipos arnt that dangerous

A charged lipo is more dangerous, and dents cause shorts inside that reduce the capacity and amp handling. Once they get damaged they wear out faster. Still don't ever trust it though, lithium is a metal that burns very hot and furious.

That pack with the small dent in it actually takes in ~1300 mah every time I charge it. The dent happened months ago and resulted from quite a nice airplane crash. I use that pack frequently too, both in the plane and in the trucks.

Maybe the dent I have isn't all that bad?
