anyone know of a camcorder, (or DSLR, action, or pocket camera that does vid)
that has 60-120fps at 1080
optical zoom
no fisheye/wide angle lens
under $500?

optical zoom
no fisheye/wide angle lens

Rule out all action cameras, unless off course you put on a MOD lens, but those easy cost as much as the camera.

Other than that 1080p / 120 are pretty common in action cameras by now, at least the MID / HIGH end.
Personally i am using the SJ7 Star for those slomo recordings, and then the SJ6 legend for the regular 1080p/60 footage.

But i must also say a camcorder are good for so many things a action camera cant do, flying or the race boats.
My friend crashed his fast E- boat at 100 + KM/h as we strapped his SJ4000 camera to it totally fawking up aerodynamics on a boat that otherwise can do 180 km/h with the right powertrain.
We never saw the SJ4000 again :ror:

Even track racing on or off road you would want a camcorder with some optical zoom, it do take some experience keeping up and a good tripod are also nice, we use my friends Manfretto tripod.

For scaling in the forest i use either a selfie stick and a MED size gorilla pod.

500 USD should be fine to get something, maybe both a 1080P/ 60 camcorder and a 1080p/120 action camera.

A lot of the editing software now have correction for wide angle lenses, so you can compensate for that in post, but you will off course loose some FOV
Selecting narrow FOV on most action cameras also cut off a lot of fish eye as its then only the middle 2 MP of a XX MP sensor thats used to form up your 1080p footage, and fisheye are more pronounced towards the edge of the frame.

RAW recordings, no post correction made.

Do take into consideration that youtube are notorious for ruining otherwise good footage with compression artifacts.

yeah action cams are out. i already own a goPro and a Turnigy knock off.

yes fisheye can be corrected in post, but it cant get rid of the fact that the wide angle lens makes everything looks twice as far away as it actually is. its like having a NEGATIVE 2x zoom on at all times.

you nailed it on the head i want optical zoom so i can fill the frame from a distance, for RCs and track racing. where you cant always be 36 inches from your subject to fill the frame.

i might be willing to bump up the budget if the specs got what i was after.

Sony RX100 V will do 250/500/1000 FPS, but its $700ish

Panasonic LUMIX FZ1000 4K will do 1920 x 1080 pixels, 30p, 120FPS. $500ish

Slightly wide angle, Sony FDR-X3000 action cam will do 120fps as well. $400ish

i think i found it

Panasonic HC-V770K

20x Optical Zoom
1080p @120fps
1080p @240fps (artificial interlated between 120fps frames)
$498

Full HD Camcorder with 20X Stabilized Lens and WiFi Smartphone Twin Video Capture - HC-V770K - Panasonic US
https://www.amazon.com/PANASONIC-HC-V770-Camcorder-Optical-Smartphone/dp/B00RBG5J02

you can jump up to the 870 which adds 4k and more $$
and you can further jump to the 970 which adds 4k, a second camera on the flip out and even more $$
no interest in those.

shot in 120fps mode

That looks pretty damn good. Without YouTube's horrible compression it will look even better.

That has to be the least excited goal scorer I've ever seen. :lmao:
