19 MPH: Good, Bad or Ugly?

I clocked my Wraith using a Bushnell Velocity speed gun, top speed on pavement was 19 MPH, occasionally saw 20, 21. I did this at least 10 times with consistent results.

Is this good? bad? very bad?

Mamba Max Pro
Tekin Pro4 3,300
32p 54T spur with 14T pinion
Hyperion 3S, 35C, 4,200

I've tried other 3S batteries, SmartSense, Sensored Only, , results are consistent.

Is 19 MPH max speed normal/slow for this setup running on pavement?

A lot is written in these forums about what a beast the Tekin Pro4 is, and the need to bullet-proof the Wraith with expensive parts. I'm not seeing it in my setup.

I'm aware that the Wraith is more crawler than pavement racer, but I want to make that it's running as expected. The only way I can do that is quantitatively - with a speed gun.

Max speed data on pavement is not usually a common measurement of performance in this niche of rc is what I was alluding to. Rpm and max speed is somewhat easy to do with a fast motor. Where the pro4 excels is in crawlability along with the awesome torque of a 4 pole motor.

If you can creep along as well as have the speed you currently have.. get it out there, beat on it and have fun "thumbsup"

I am not and expert but I think thats to slow for a a 3300kv 4 pole brushless motor....even if its weights to much I think something is wrong

Accounting for various other losses and a fully charged pack vs. a nominal 11.1.. looks just about right.

Quick question,do you have the motor and esc poles in order?

A to A
B to B
C to C

I'm running 32p 56t spur and 14t pinion and I think I could go up a tooth or two on pinion.

With a 54t spur, you should be able to run 16-18 pinion

I am not saying you are wrong. I just think LOGICALLY, that the pro4 should deliver more speed than that

The power advantage of the Pro4 is the burst power it has (torque) when you need it. If you're not seeing the power then you likely aren't using it like a Ultra or trail truck. Just blasting up and down a street isn't showing you much of anything.

well those 20moh sounds nice..

ace riper 540 3300kv
32p 54t / 11t
life batts 9.9v

gave me the amazing 13.98 mph !!!

and I though it was fast !! LOL no wonder why it dont jump and move as well as my ruckus that goes 40 mph (I know it a rock racer and trailer rig but I wish it was almost on the 20 mph range)

I agree. What I love about my four pole motor is the vicious burst of torque. You can really preload the suspension by punching it in the transition of the jump/stump/roots/ledge and really pop right up and over it.

I am running the Pro4 and love it! I was like you, expecting big top end at first. A Wraith isn't geared like a sc truck though. I agree with the others, you get incredible torque from a stand still and some really smooth crawling in sensored operation.

Speed isnt all about the motor, its all about gearing too.

the fastest motor in the world will still be slow(top speed) if its geared low, if you want more top speed adjust your spur or pinion size "thumbsup"

You really don't get it do you?

What about the front & rear ring & pinion ratios? or the transmission ratio?
Tire size?
Speed is a bit more than pinion / spur ratio

Maybe but all those things can be compensated by pinion/spur ratios. Essentially, it really does come down to pinion/spur ratios and motor temp.
