Well this had a thread listed under pimp cane pvc but I decieded to go to a normal pimp cane and not try to reinvent the wheel on my first comp crawler. (maybe the next one for my son) I got it done for now and will do upgrades from now on but keep it running the whole time hopefully.
parts list
pimp cane 12.5 inch chassis with rear axle reversed
clod axles pretty much stock except for locked diffs and bearings and steering clearenced for more turning angle
Rear has washer trick for lock out (works perfect)
tires are molanders which are badland max size with a moab side wall and are 5.8 inches tall (help diff clearence)
foams extreme rc 6" memory foams
wheel are clod offset 1" wide mayhem spiders Which are great and got my width down to 11 3/8 inch
servo is tower pro 945 200 oz and 12.00 hard ot beat
55 turn motors intergy with 9 tooth front 8 rear
cpe adjustable motor adapters
super rooster esc
2 cell 3800 poly quest but will run 2 3cell tp 1320 in series if the esc will handle it (thread in elec. section)
dig box for front and rear dig made like one in berg sec.
m8 airtronics tx and 3 channel rx
This was a very inexpensive comp clod build and did it with all used parts from this site, ebay and 4x4 scale which has worked out great and all the people have been very honest and would do it again.
Will be testing out soon on somthing more than my 1.9 practice area in garage and hope it works good. I will get some video or rock pics soon and post. Next comp on the 21st and want to be ready to compete with the bergs.

lookin good bud, now all you need is the 14mm lst hex mod to get ur front track width down even further. i just bought some on ebay for 16.00 a set! good luck with the comp, now go and practice drivin that pig!

I love the pimp canes...i've always ran the battery right on the back bone up front on the chassis...never reallly noticed a difference in cg, but a torsion is super stable anyways.

Well I think I need to wait til I get cvds to do the 14mm mod and really I need the small cs and spindles too since my wheel is real close to the cs now.
The tires were mod and glued and done well so I'm not worried about them at all and can't wait to put them to the test.
Testing will get started soon so I can get use to a pimp cane. It seems like they are real stable and predictable so I can't wait to put it in some big rocks and try it out. The whole dig thing is a new one for me so there is alot going on and that will take some time.
Last night I added some more weight to it by putting lead inside the void in the spindle around the axle so that I can add or remove some for testing. It seemed like with the pvc was way more flexy so the weight was good then but the alum pimp cane needs more so we'll see. I know have a total of about 10oz in ea front and 7 in ea rear. Hopefully thats close.

hahaha... doit, doit. you can always say that "it" must've gotten lost during the move back to wisconsin!

tested

Took it out today for the first time and it worked great. It seemed real predictable with the pimp cane and did 3 wheel quite a bit but still worked well in those situations. I have to get use to it which il take time and I need to test it in comp type format with gates so I can get use to the dig and when to use it. I messed with he dig some today and that was pretty cool. I will let you know how the first comp goes.

comped

Went in comp on sat and lets just say I had fun. It was very difficult comp for everyone I think and I still need to get use to it but it did ok. The dig was cool but my m8 with the knob takes a bit to use. My tires are the one upgrade needed since they are the m2 compound they need to be a little softer so I think I will try the rovers next since the height is real close but alot more grip. My width was ok but could see how a little narrower would help. The stock axle were way tougher than I thought. They took a beating with 3 cell lipos and dig all day and had to upright in huge holes a few times so very happy about that. All in all happy and back to the bench for the tweaking.

Rovers

I ordered some soft rovers for my rig and should help a bunch . I hope the extreme 6" memory foams work good with them so we'll see. I know they will be alot softer than the molanders.

You will like the Rovers. I know I do... The 6in Foams are what I've got right now. Seem to be working great so far.

i bought a set of hover softs and hpi grabbers for my 2.2 clod as well... needed more traction. boy, tires have come a long way, the m2 m3 compunds dont even compare.

nice

So it was that big a difference? My molanders are m2 which I knew was not that soft so I can't wait to try the rovers. Jed I saw at the last comp that they had the gates set up allittle narrow for ya but maybe it's because there scared of losing to a clod comp rig. Well soon enough there will be another one to deal with so maybe we can gang up on them. Lol Looks like you guys are having alot of fun in those indoor comps and I can't wait to try it out.

i think the m2/m3 would work better outside in high temps to soften them up more, but they still wouldnt compare to the new compound tires out there now. new tires are def the way to go.

i'm gonna shorten up my width some more- it looks like i can tap the inside of the axles more and cut them even shorter while re-drilling the hole for the pin for the hexs on the shaft. the more clods-the merrier! you'll for sure have fun!

tried the rovers

I tried out the rovers yesterday and all I can say is WOW. They worked great and I went places I wouldn't even think of going before. So happy but no I'm having a hard time getting the mayhem beadlocks to grab the tire good without squishing it out some. I don't know if thats kinda normal or not but the came out allittle and then stopped so they never came all the way off the bead so whatever. I will try again. The grip was amasing though and so happy.

i knew you'd be happy with them...

did u use the extreme rc's 6" memory foam? if so, were they supporting enough that the sidewalls wouldn't "fold over"? do you think they'd "bunch" easy when falling into a hole or crevice?

foams

I did use the extremes and they were fair but I think a 2 stage stiffer foam would be better. I also not use to such a soft tire so that might be some of it?

My Rovers on Mayhems do the same thing. I ran the 6in Xtreme Foams this weekend. They worked great for me.
