2.2 Wheel Suggestion for SSD

Yes sorry I announced them in the Bomber thread

These wheels are wide and have delrin rings. The offset is designed to be compatible with high steer knuckles.

Full spec here: 2.2" Rock Racer Beadlock Wheels (Black)

Keeping it scale and true to life, I love it. I will probably have to have a set of those wheels. "thumbsup"

So what tires have you guys found work ok with the smaller width wheels like this? My bro has a set of unopened 2.2 steelies from SSD and I was thinking of trading for them from him, I really like how they look, but if I'm loosing performance I'll stick with what I got. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

the Ripsaws fit okay, but would still look better on a wider wheel.

the RC4WD Genius tires look good and fit well, but they're narrow tires not quite 1.6" wide. I'll see if I can get a couple of pics with them mounted, if I can locate my camera

SSD, you are obviously the new fast "up and comer" vendor around here and listen to your customers...here's my suggestion:

Produce wider wheel cans so that your 2.2 wheels will fit better on wider tires in order to keep the sidewalls and tread surface flatter? You are already producing these rings, making them up to 1.5" wide would provide more options for potential customers IMHO. And if this does seem doable, how about making these wheel rings that fit VP Method and OMF 2.2 wheels too. There seems to be a demand for these parts as I have seen a number of folks inquiring about them throughout RCC.

I struggle to get your wheels on wider tires using the stock foams because of the width...it's obviously easier when using CI dual foams, but the tire distorts because it's squeezed so much in the middle.

I have both your 2.2 Assassin Wheels and 2.2 Steel 10-Hole black wheels, but they sit on my shelf unused because I wish they were wider.

Thanxs for your time and consideration."thumbsup"

X2000 this is why there are many wheels I won't even consider buying, too narrow for the tires! Even Axial 2.2 Ripsaws need a wider wheel! 1.25 - 1.5" is the proper width!!!!!!!! "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

Don't get me wrong, the SSD wheels are very nice (especially the Assassins) and great quality, I just wish they could be wider. The included scale hardware and the fact that they fit VP SLW hubs is a huge bonus.

X2

I'm sure there are high quality. I think VP's wheel offerings are too. I would love to have a set of OMFs but it's not happening until they get the width right. I like a flat contact patch. You get ballon tires running wheels lees than an inch wide. Bad for traction.

Yes, all real world crawlers know this and nobody doing hardcore crawling or competition crawling runs anything narrow like most the 2.2 RC beadlocks offered.

So what's the popular width for 2.2 these days?

Thanks for listening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

1.2 to 1.5 works great. And a more centered offset. It puts less strain on the hubs. Running positive offset wheels with long slw hubs is like running huge wheel spacers in the real world.

Thanks for showing interest in customer feedback.

X2 "thumbsup"

I will see what we can do about wideners for our 2.2 Asssassin wheels.

Awesome!

SSD has listened to me!!!! The new Rock Racer wheels are 38mm wide (1.496").

Awesome, those are beautiful wheels!

Those look really nice...I'm surprised there's no announcement yet.

2.2" Rock Racer Beadlock Wheels (Black)

Sweet, hope they make those in 1.9 too, they are beautiful!

I'm also wanting a wider 2.2 wheel. It blows me away that most are still around 1" wide despite the size of tires increasing over the years.

Wideners for the Assassins didn't work out as the offset of the wheel would have required a very large hub.

Just thought to say that the Axial plastic XR10 beadlocks are the perfect width and offset for Wraith, that is what I used for a long time with mine. I don't know the offset of those wheels, but maybe it's close to the Assasins?

Edit: these wheels look perfect for Wraith and Bomber!!! :)

Ordered a set of the Rock Racers from RPP Hobby 30 minutes ago, should be here by Wednesday, possibly Tuesday. Now to figure out what tires to mount on them.

Love these wheels.....

The Rock Racer wheels and BFGoodrich tires came in Wednesday, was able get the Pro-Line Super Swamper and BFGoodrich Baja KR2 tires mounted up with a minor modification to the wheels.

EDIT:
Love these wheels.....

I was able read your question on the modification before your edit, the images didn't show up when I posted the first time so I deleted it and started over. I thought I caught it before anyone had a chance to read.

For now the modification is just a round 3mm spacer between the wheels halves at each screw location, it gave me a 1.5mm gap on both beads. There's not much gap between the rims and clamp ring, so I opened up the same gap (1-2mm each side) I have on other wheels of similar design. If yours clamped down without cutting the tires then the spacer may not be needed. Some have actually cut through the beads on wheels that were not Pro-Line friendly.

No issues, no mods....I ran the SSD RR wheels with the Flat Iron XL tires for a while and now with the KR2 tires.

I've got a set of Badlands with the same bead that I consider somewhat expendable, I'll give them a try. If they fit without damage, my spacers may have "solved" a problem that didn't actually exist.
