I'm looking to finally sell off my Jeep this week, and my little daily driver car sometime in the next couple of weeks I think. Whenever I can get it back from loaning it to my aunt in from Hawaii basically. Anyway, one of our best family friends owns a local Yota dealership, and I know will hook me up with a great deal on one. I love the looks of them, and don't mind the V6 for mileage as opposed to my heavy foot in a V8 truck at all.

I know I'd be really happy with one, my question is, does anyone have one, or one that is a very close model year to share any insight into them? I'm not worried about the whole Toyota Recall thing either btw. :) Thanks in advance "thumbsup"

Just bought my wife a 2006 TRD sport double cab. She loves it, and when I drive it on long road trips its great. You wont regret it "thumbsup"

Well, if or when our Jeeps try that, they only go to 3500 rpm too, and they don't rust in half as quickly either"thumbsup"

Haha, good thinking dude. I like the older Tacoma's myself the new ones are just too big. Something around 03 or so.

Yeah, I've always thought the Taco was a nice truck, but I grew up driving a full size chevy. I'd love to have one again, but there are too many factors in this deal that make me lean towards a yota. This isn't going to be a 'lifetime' truck either, I'm thinking something more along the lines of I drive it for 3-6 years and then sell it off or trade it up for a fullsize.

Does it have the standard bed or the long bed? I'd like to have a double cab, but the standard bed on it would drive me batshit I think. If it's got a longbed, how does it compare in length to a double cab Tundra or a Chevy? There is supposedly one on the lot I'm going to, but I am just worried it will be like the old long bed Chevy... Feels and looks like you're driving a damn limo lol

Read between the lines on the recall.

Who is the number one auto company in the world? Toyota
Who is sucking eggs right now and losing money? GM
Who has a major stake in GM? US Government
Who is pushing the recall and doing all of the "investigations"? US Government

Don't know about you but it sure seems like a huge conflict of interest to me. You would think the way the government and media is acting every toyota is falling apart and bursting into flames. Even the few lawsuits which are aiming at the gas pedal issues have not proven that the accidents were indeed a result of any malfunction on Toyota's part.

I have never had more problems than with both GM's I owned, a 97 Buick Regal GS and a 2001 Silverado 4x4.

Don't you think there would have been much more in the media about these "failures" before the recall came out? It all justs seems awfully convenient to me. But I saw the writing on the wall with the GM takeover last year and when Obama fired the CEO. Should also be a clue when no one wants to buy any part of the company, just look how the Saturn deal went bust.

I have owned all manners of vehicles and never had better service than I get from Toyota. I have never had to fight with them over a warranty issue and never had an issue with my 07 camry with 65k miles on it. It is on the recall list.

I drive a 1986 Toyota Pickup 4x4 Longbed. Got me a camper shell and a Truck Bedz for when I go camping. It's got 192,256 miles on her. She's old enough to drink but she don't like the taste of ethanol. I change the oil every 3k and when I do the old oil still looks like new.

I love this truck. I like the fact that it's older than a lot of the kids on this forum.

For the last few years I've been planning to buy a brand new Toyota 4x4 truck in 2012. With the way my old faithful is running, I don't think I'll have to.

The newer tacos with the 4.0l are sick. They are great trucks, I work on them everyday at a yota dealer and they have very few issues ever. Don't let this recall BS make you think twice about a Toyota purchase of any kind. Toyota stands behind their product a 100% and will always make thing right.

My mom rolled her 06, she has an 010 on order now, she loved her last Tacoma and had to have another.

Standard bed. She hated the look of the longbed and I didn't want her driving something that long anyways. Besides, for me, there is plenty of room back there for all the RC stuff

Well the only downfall for me on new Tacoma's, is you can have a Tundra for a similar price if you don't want all the options. The new Tundra 4.6 v8's get decent mileage too. food for thought. Or bite the bullet and get the 5.7 an add a supercharger. Where does it end?

That is all.

Its not just a simple gas pedal or floor mat thing. It also involves a sensor, that should prevent this from happening. The sensor does not function, and does not send a check engine light signal. Do some digging. The
Japanese have been fixing these issues since 2006. When parts first came here, they were sent to the factories where the make some of the Toyotas and put on new cars, not ones that were already on the road.

They are a Japanese company, they dont want anyone to know whats going on inside. A former Toyota attorney also stated this, and added that Toyota does not care what the cost is, even if it costs lives. Japanese companies that do business in America or have American divisions do not feel they should have to follow our laws. I gave someone very close to me that has worked in the legal department for 2 enormous international Japanese corporations. They feel that they can do business in America, the way they do at home.

Theres no conspiracy, and Toyota does not give a crap about you, just its bottom line. Automakers, have these wonderful attorneys and accountants that exist entirely to deal with possible recalls. The corporation will, if a problem is found, not fix it, because they deem it too expensive. They will talk to their lawyers and accountants. They estimate cost of fixing before assembly is finished, vs. cost of possible legal settlements due to possible injuries or deaths. Unfortunately, injuries and deaths is usually cheaper to deal with.

As far as the Tacos, I would not ignore the "possibility" of an issue.

I owned a 2001 4wd TRD Tacoma xtra cab. Great truck. It had a 3.4L engine, and could get ~22mpg going up the 395, in a head wind.

I currently own a 2008 4wd Limited 4Runner. The 4.0L in the truck is great.
We average between 19-21mpg. My brother in law has a 2009 Tacoma PreRunner xtra cab. He also has the 4.0L. He gets 13mpg. He has a stick, we have an auto. Yes, there are some aerodynamics issues, but autos should get lower gas mileage. He used to have an FJ Cruiser, which is built on the 4Runner chassis, running gear, and motor. He also got about 13mpg - another stick shift.

FYI - Ford knew there was a major problem with the Pinto, what would happen, and was not willing to spend 100 some odd dollars for a quick easy repair - replace bumper bolts, and armor plate between them and the gas tank. The movie Class Action is a good example of this.

Homer, you've seen what kind of shape my 91 Yota is in. It hasn't exactly been babied either, it has a few dents and dings here and there along with 289,000 miles and all it has is a rust spot on the bottom of the bed behind the rear drivers side tire. ALL automakers will have problems and Toyota is no exception, but they stand behind their product and fix the problem. I'm sure many people remember the issues with frame rot on the early Tacos and Toyota's solution. As for their current issues, does anyone honestly think it's going to be fixed overnight, especially for the number one automaker pushing out the pure volume of vehicles that Toyota does?

Not conspiracy, politics.

Where are the investigation panels? Have a look at the numerous recalls listed for all brands. Why are we not opening congressional investigation panels into all of these? A safety issue is a safety issue, why not be even handed?

I find this one of particular concern:

JANUARY 2010 - Chrysler is recalling model year 2010 Chrysler Sebring; Dodge Avenger and Nitro; Jeep Liberty, Commander and Grand Cherokee; and model year 2009-2010 Dodge Ram truck. These vehicles may have been built with an improperly formed or missing brake booster input rod retaining clip. This could result in brake failure without warning which could cause a crash. Chrysler will replace the brake booster input rod retaining clip free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during February 2010. Chrysler's safety campaign number is J37. 10V-009

Its all politics and for all the fools trading there "unsafe" toyotas in to get some shit box GM product or ford, or whatever I am sure they will regret it down the road when they become re-acquainted with the tow truck drivers.

Every manufacturer has recalls, GM just recalled 1 million cobalts for some P/S disaster...yet no one is crying over that...but they are over the Toyota corolla P/S recall that is suppose to hit soon

Politics suck
