Wow, what a weekend of non stop fun. This year AZ Summer Shootout was incredible. The past years were great but the 4th annual was a step above the norm with the help of generous sponsors like Castle Creations, Y-Town Crawlers, CKRC, TCS, Hobby Town, Panther tires, Vanquish Products, Crawler Design Works, HiTec, Big D's RC's, and Brians Bodies. I would also like to thank the G Crew for bringing the G6 Whiskey Row Challenge.

We had several guys show up Thursday to setup camp and get some practice in on the never ending high traction Granite Dells rock. While crawlers from all over were rolling in I was out on the rocks trying to determine where the we would setup 4 incredible 2.2 courses. It was hard to figure out where to put them since there was miles of sticky granite rock and one incredible obstacle after another.

Friday morning I had help from a fairly new NARCCA club member named Jerry Weatherley. We set out to find the perfect location for an axle slide. Thats right, we had an axle slide for the 2.2 class. We looked high and low till we came across an area which became course #4. Jerry helped determine where to pound the stakes in and helped find a ton of rocks to pile around the stakes so they were not hazard for those walking around them. Thanks Jerry!

Friday evening was tech and the start of the RECON crews G6 drivers meeting and the first 2 stages. I was excited to participate in the G6 as I had never had the chance. I had just finished putting my scaler back together just for this event. I really had no idea what it was really about. The rules are easy to understand and the courses are setup in a fun challenging progression. I stage budied with Darwin and we went for it. All I can say is WOW!. I never thought I would have that much fun running around out in the woods chasing a scaler around and looking for the next markers. I didnt know I could run that much and have a huge smile on my face the whole time. The G6 crew really out done themselves with some incredible fun and challenging courses. With the fun water crossings and the callenging hill climbs to the technical and tight scenarios, to changing to your spare tire, to making you winch up an almost impossible hill climb. I have discovered a new way to spell fun "RECON G6!" Thanks G6 crew.

Saturday morning we had our drivers meeting to help answer any questions new drivers might have and clarify rollovers and such. Then we took a group photo with all the rock crawlers stacked up on and around the picnic bench near NARCCA central. Thanks to Jess Downing steping up and becoming our 8th Judge as we had one not able to make it. Thanks Jess for your Sportsmanship and helping make this event go smooth. That is right, we had 8 judges that consisted of Jed Lethbridge, Jess Downing, Miles Hempleton, Scott Oney, Dani Schlotterbeck, James Dicken, Darwin James, and Scanlon Aitken. You guys did a great job and truly helped make this event flow smoothly. FrFor the Shootout this year we decided to Shoot it out with the top 10 finishers for the 2.2 class. The finishing scores from the shootout moved a few drivers around with Brett maintaining his top driver score and Miles finishing 1 point behind him. Way to go drivers!

This years Shootout was a dual event for those lucky ten drivers trying to earn their way to a Nationals invite. It just so happened that the top two drivers were potential National invitees. You guys trully earned your invites. Congrats and good luck at Nationals. We feel that we are sending Arizonas top drivers. Way to go Brett and Miles.

Slash Bash! I was asked several times in the early part of the weekend, "What is a slash bash" people would say. I told them it was hard to explain exactly but it is worth watching. This years bash was brought to you almost exclusively by Kevin from TCS as he supplied two trucks for the ultimate carnage. Thanks to a few others that steped up for some destruction. It quickly seemed as though they didnt really now what they were in for. Video following soon.

Sunday morning got started with 3 fun and challenging 1.9 courses while a small pack of guys were running thier supers through 3 tough curses. From the scores it looks like we had a majority of drivers finish all three 1.9 courses while the Super guys were strugling to get at least one course finished.

Awards were given out to the top 3 for each class including a 1st place trophy for overall. A big Thanks goes out to CDW for helping sponsor the trophies this year and a big thanks again to all our other Sponsors being Castle Creations, Y-Town Crawlers, CKRC, TCS, Hobby Town, Panther tires, Vanquish Products, Crawler Design Works, HiTec, Big D's RC's, and Brians Bodies. The trophies were cool but the giveaway was incredible. Our sponsors were so generous that we were able to give just about everyone 2 items to take home. The giveaway items ranged from ESC's to custom painted bodies to tires and so on. A specila thanks goes out to Dwane Oliver for stepping up and donating one of his custom made knives with incredible craftmanship.

I just want to thank everyone for a fun filled and exciting weekend because it wouldnt have been the same if you all werent there. You guys help make this event what it is and I look forward to seeing you all in the future."thumbsup"

Pictures and video will be up in the next few days.

As always thanks to the Prescott guys for putting on a fun event. Here's my carnage from the slash bash, only $50 in parts. Not too bad! Hopefully next year we can get a few more people willing to participate, I know the crowd loves it and it's freaking fun!
