2017 Scale Rules

Under the new rules 2017,
i have some simple questions:

1) the Vaterra Ascender brake discs (optional) are legal?

20151205_134328.jpg

20151205_134452.jpg

• No, they bolt to the knuckles.

2) we have some difficulty in understanding what you mean exactly for "flat skid plate in class 1 "
probably the translation from the English language to the Italian language is not correct,
you can give a concrete and understandable example ?

• No skids that are lower in front than in back like the shafty sporty rigs. Skid should be parallel with the ground.

3) "Cage must be a rigid material of at least 1/8” diameter that is permanently brazed, welded or soldered to create a single unit".
If the material used is aluminum, it's legal assemble tubes with screws and glue to aluminum or epoxy glue,
if the end result is a rigid cage?

• Screws will probably be added as a way to join the pieces. Glue/epoxy will not.

4) Sliders - "Must be within 1/2" of each wheel well, or to the back of the cab on trucks"
In case of an unusual building, V8 engine visible and cabin only,
the solution adopted in this photo, which I believe is correct and realistic, is legal?

• That's fine.

Thank you in advance for answers ;-)

See above ^^

for a hardbody... say i was to fully encapsulate a lexan body with .060 sheet styrene and did it right with nothing halfassed...? basically building a hardbody around a lexan one.

trail ranger body to be specific. conceptually speaking you could pop the lexan off the body once you got the styrene panels all glued up, but it would be nice to keep the lexan for added rigidity and areas that are glass or where you want the appearance of seperate body panel detail.

i think i could it very well and make the body more realistic than it is in its lexan form to be honest...
.

Interesting! As long as the styrene is .060 over the entire body, I don't see why you couldn't do that.

What is a functional transfercase? Does it need hi and lo ranges to get points?

• Nope, just a transfer case that is separate from the transmission.

What is a realistically mounted body? No more body clips?

• Just mounted on the chassis like it should be. Body clips are fine.

What is the reasoning behind making cms mandatory in C1?

• All street driven cars have a steering box mounted on the frame.

Is the CC01 going to be illegal in 2018 in C1 because it does not have a metal chassis or a skidplate of any kind?

• No

Bumpers and stuff:
"Flat plate may be any thickness with a minimum of 1/2”."
What does that mean? Flat plate can be any thickness as long as it is atleast 1/2" thick? Or should that be wide?

• 1/2" wide. It can be bent. This mostly applies to plate sliders.

Why is the spare wheel width policed?

• Not sure I understand that.

See above^^

A stepside bed usually has overall fender as wide as the cab, but the bed itself is narrower. Does it means all stepside beds are not allowed, even if they clearly do exist on real stock rigs?
May they be allowed, adding to the stepside a bumper which is as large as the front one, in order to exclude any "dovetail effect" advantage?

Thanks

No, stepsides are fine.

Could you clarify the 'functional t-case' for the bonus points? functional 2wd/4wd or just being a separate, dedicated t-case? I have a Dinky divorce mount t-case, does that count? "thumbsup"

A transfer case that's separate from the transmission. Doesn't need to shift into 2wd/4wd or high/low.

hi guy.

a question:

"No bolt on or stick on external axle or knuckle weights of any kind."

all of this is illegal?

I think yes, because are all weight bolt to the knuckle.

But we have the problem that someone is able to create the same knuckle-weight in one piece.

like this:

Obviusly it is make to add weight and bypass the rules.

No attemp to copy the real .

this is legal? I hope no.
in case one piece is allowed, How the judge can discover
a "hiden" piece? Someone can easily bolt the weight and use
liquid steel glue or putty and after paint to simulate one block piece.

Can the local "judge" make something in case of this?
We don't have x-ray :(

thanks for all."thumbsup"

an other question from italian user:

Code:
• The vehicles body must be mostly intact.
Only mild trimming is allowed, such as removing: flairs, trim, molding
& a hardtop. If the hardtop is removed, a full interior is required
(no extreme trimming of bodies
allowed *Seebelow.)
• Bodies should be mounted in a realistic
position in relation to the chassis (like a
1:1 would be).
• Any removal of material from behind the front wheel well
(except trim/molding) is considered a boat side.
• Boat sides are not allowed.
• Dovetailing is not allowed.
How much is of front part of the vehicle is to consider "mild" or "extreme"
We have the 2 case..

1) toyota:

hilnewlook.jpg

can I trim all the part under the front bumper? It is legal?
can I trim all the part under the grill and replace the bumper with a smaller tube one?
can I trim all the part under the hood and replace the grill and the light with lower ones?
It is not exactly mild...

2) front of Defender:

cut 45° the lighthouse is legal?
cut more and replace the light with a little one is legal?

obviusly cut the front side of the front of vehicle give a better approach angle so a significant advantage.

thanks for answers.

So I understand that brass weights bolted to the knuckles are illegal but could you bolt a faux brake disc/drum to the knuckle for exterior points if it was made of a lightweight material?

Something made of thin aluminum or plastic wouldn't add any significant weight (a couple grams maybe) but would anything bolted to a knuckle be considered a "knuckle weight"?

The last picture is legal because it's the actual knuckle. If people take advantage of this, then we'll have to add more rules next year. It's kind of up to the builders to police themselves. Nobody likes too many rules.....

removing the stock plastic bumper and the material under it is legal if you replace it with a full width bumper. Just remember the front of the tires can't protrude past the front of the bumper.

Cutting at an angle like the D90 is pushing it. It's more of a comp cut.

Sorry, no bolt on weight means just that....even if it only weighs 3 grams.

Why do people respond with bright colored text on a white background? You understand some people won't be able to see it right?

Tks for The answer.
For The knuckle hand made doesn t need a new rule.
Nobody like rulez... But simple say "remade knockle must be similar to real One"
Very easy.

If you're color blind this is all a blob... I'm sure there's a way to manipulate resolution to make it clearer to sight impaired, just saying it's a pain in the ass.. I usually skip the stuff I can't read, but this might end up being needed information

I have a question for this rules point :

"Flat plate may be any thickness with a minimum of 1/2”. IE, it can be bent but 2 measured sides added together must equal at least 1/2”

Please, which of the three hypotheses is correct? :
1 the sum of two sides (base + height)
2 the sum of 3 sides (base + base + height)
3 the vertical development (Height difference) of the height created by the bumper

I have a dark gray background so the yellow stands out nicely. Gosh, I can never do anything right.......

We were leaning toward example 1 but #2 would be fine.

Is that adjustment in the app, the forum, or on the device? I've got the same coloring on all three..

That's the difference, I'm on the mobile app for the forum.. the coloring is different than the rcc website.. all I have is apple stuff these days and it auto defaults to Tapatalk

you can change the tapatalk background to dark mode. its what i do.

.060 white vacuum form = -12
.060 clear vacuum form = -0 ......Still blows my mind.

Are there updated 2017 scale point tally sheets posted anywhere yet? We definitely need those asap.
