2mtech's SCX10ish Power Wagon

After tucking wiring, final tuning shocks, mounting wheels & tires and loc-titing 68 pieces of scale hardware, next came body mounting.

I knew I didn't want to do pins & clips, so the standby of trays & velcro was the go-to.

Cut the platforms from a dishwasher console and a printed circuit board (thanks, work). Drilled holes in the platforms for the body pins dropped all the way down, applied E6000 (even on the aluminum front pins), sanded flush and applied velcro.

Determining velcro placement sequence for best centering & alignment is always the challenge. This one was easy since the raised well in the bed made a good centering jig for the rear. I made the rear platform the same size as the raised well so it self-aligns. Just had to then align the front with both sides of the velcro adhered to the platform and press down. I do use a thin film of E6000 to make sure the velcro stays stuck to the platforms & body.

With the body mounted, it was time for some poser pics and trial around-the-house run. Rear bumper and a few accessories are still on order.

I have a feeling this one is going to become the favorite! Speed control is better than any rig I have, no torque twist, flex seems good (TBD).

Can't wait to get this out on a trail. "thumbsup"
 
So now I come to something of a styling dilemma. It seems these 1:1 vintage trucks didn't have a standard rear bumper to speak of. Fine for full sized or scale, I suppose, but not terribly practical for a crawler. The rear end looked empty...unfinished.

Made some extensions for the SCX10 style mounts to get the right positioning, but I'm not entirely happy with it.

Would it look better raised up to cover the scalloped skirt/even with the bottom the tailgate? Ends bobbed off even with the bed?

Thinking it needs some mudflaps too.

Thoughts?

I think it would look great raised up just enough to sit under the tailgate hinge. The width would look better since the gap between the bumper height and the fender height would be closed up some.

Looks pretty good as-is though. I guess you'd have to compare it to the front too to ensure it doesn't look odd also..?

Does the curve of the hood stay attached to the flat Velcro strip on the body posts?

I think I want to try that. The front is a recovery/stinger affair (post #43 pics) so some bobbing may be necessary for balance in the Force as well.

Yep, no problem at all. Arc is not as severe as it seems if you stay narrow.
 
First trail run yesterday while the wonderful east coast rain took a pause...Alberto had other plans today.

It did...ok. Was in a new place (thanks, svt923 "thumbsup") that turned out to be as nice as advertised, although a bit more aggressive terrain than we're accustomed to. Didn't help that it was still wet.

Rear bumper came off quickly as it destroyed departure angle and banged relentlessly against the body. Needs work. Moved the shocks from the uppermost mount point to the lowest fairly soon too, travel was inadequate to be sure.

Stock tires/foams turned out to be (surprise) atrocious and will not see a trail again. Trails close to here are mostly close to rivers, meaning the trails see a good bit of time submerged with the resultant water erosion exposing tree roots. This tends to make river's edge trailing akin to crawling in an abandoned lumber mill yard. I haven't tried 2.2's on anything yet but I'm seriously considering it for this one. I was skeptical to claims that plastic axle housings slide better than metal ones, but I think I'm convinced now. Ground clearance would be nice.

Had zero issues with the body staying put even after rollovers & tumbles.

that dodge needs a Lincoln stick welder in the back of it. lol. clean truck. tires fit the look.
 
Sweet looking rig! CBE link risers for the rear uppers, Beef Patties up front or Samix brass knuckles if you want to get more vertical. Wertymade makes shorter rear bumpers down to 4 inches wide if you want to go that route. "thumbsup"
