3D Printed Engine Parts?

Has anyone done any 3D Design and made up any parts for the engine in this kit?

Waterpump, Oil Filter and mount, Radiator, Altenator, Power Steering Pump, pulleys etc?

I know the RC4WD engine parts fit as it was designed by the same guy that did the SSD, only difference really being the SSD block and parts are plastic while the RC4WD is metal and HEAVY IMO.

I have started learning CAD and am in the process of designing a few parts to see how they turn out.

Just wondering if anyone else has made any CAD - STL files for engine gear.

I've also found the items on Thingiverse, but they are not quite large enough to fit and upscaleing wont work on somethings.

So Ive started a water pump and radiator so far, and will get the the Alt and PS pump once I have the 1st 2 done close enough.
 
HumboldtEF did headers and a radiator cover for the servo. They’re both on thingiverse.
 
I’m interested in what you come up with. I’ve been wondering the same thing. Just my build is going much slower than I thought it would. I haven’t made it to this phase yet.

I'm going to figure out some way to reduce the size of that ridiculous distributor cap. Don't know how yet but it's going to happen!
 
What CAD program are you learning on? Originally I learned on Google Sketchup. Then a guy I work with showed me NavisWorks. I think Sketchup is great and easy to learn, but more tailored to things like woodworks. NavisWorks can be tailored more to 3D prints

I just ordered a printer - will arrive Tuesday. I have Fusion but don't know it yet and I will have to get familiar with the printer first.

for what it’s worth…I suggest 3D-Fuel Pro PLA filament. I’ve been using it lately and it’s fantastic. All of these items were printed with it.

I'm too new to printing to be able to appreciate a difference in filament! Won't even receive the thing until tomorrow!

Overall its not all that too large for an old Chevy V8. Thingiverse has some scale engine options that the parts of are a bit too small for the SSD motor. But the distributor cap may fit your need for a smaller one.

I looked around and started with FreeCAD. Found a decent youtuber with instructional vids for newbs. He also does F360 and I have dl'd that but not started it yet. Figured Id get a feel for FreeCAD first.

Two different critters, so learning CAD is very different than learning how to use the printer. Do both. JM2C.

I have got a little farther on learning FreeCAD so have started making detail mods to the waterpump and some elementary radiator mods so far.

Slow going atm, but getting there.

I'm going to give Fusion 360 a try. There are some videos and such. We'll see how I do!

Got ya. Ya, I didn't notice that. easy fix is to trim the bottom of the dist shaft a couple mm where it goes into the intake.
the stock shaft is 7 or 8mm minimum.

Thats also a great reference photo as well! Thankx for posting it.

Seen those vids. Also got another in the saved box. One of the guys doing FreeCAD is also doing F360 and his style is very easy to grasp.

I've heard a few people mention Product Design.

Been funking with FreeCAD. Getting somewhere with the water pump.
Not done, but getting much closer to where I was a few weeks ago. heh








First couple were too small. had to make them bigger.
Then I needed to redo the flanges, and the port for the bottom radiator hose needed to be redone.

Took me a bit to figure out how to make these off angle parts, but once I got the hang of it it was easy.
Another challenge that wasn't too bad, was learning how revolutions work.
Putting things in the right position and constraining things the right way was a bit of a trick, but once figured out, easy to repeat.

The 2 color prints are from FreeCAD and then Creality Slicer. This v6 is printing as I type to test for fitment. So long as its good to go, I'll start adding the final details and the fine point so it fits the bill well. Then I'll be tackling the fuel pump next. Then the Altenator, Power Steering Pump, and Radiator.
 
Finally ready to move on to the final details to the top and center piece. chamfer edges and it should be done.
Then onto the next piece.

To me it actually looks like its the lack of a carburetor puts the air cleaner a bit lower making the distributor look too high. Maybe it just needs a carb or a simple spacer to raise up the air cleaner?

Well, I've put my time in working on small blocks and I would say the proportion in the pic is pretty much correct. Just the raw size of the distributor with respect to the engine is too big. I'm working on a solution and I'll post a pic of mine clustered with some modified RC4WD parts pretty soon.

But hey, if you like big distributor caps then the SSD one is the way to go! Lol!
