Is this asking for trouble? I have yet to upgrade the stock ring and pinions as they been holding up fine on 2s. Been thinking of going to a 3s but dont want to waste the gears.

Which gears? All my gears are holding up fine, the plastic suspension components and bumpers not so much.

they should be fine as long as they are properly lubricated...most of mine are stock and I run 3s only....no problems after many many months and packs...

My rig was completely stock and I ran almost exclusively on 3s 55t motor stock gearing, I wouldnt call my driving style gentle.

Only gear to worry about is the plastic gears in the transmission. The R&P should be fine. I'm running stock R&P in the rear and hammer on my truck pretty good. I did replace the locker spool though both front and rear with Locked Up RC FI spools.

Depends on what motor you're running. If you're running a higher turn brushed motor, you'll probably be fine. But stock R&P and locker barely lasted 2 packs on 3S with a ROC 412 3100 when I was getting started. I switched to the Axial HD R&P gears and HR lockers and have had no problems in 2+ years.

I ask cause i know my gears didnt last long in my yeti on 3s. my scx10 axles are packed with marine grease. Its a deadbolt truck and the tranny gears are stock. im not sure what they are as far as pitch and material cause i was told there are different ones in different kits.

While my stock axle gears never failed under brushless 3s abuse, the teeth on the gears were majorly worn out after about a dozen packs. The nice rounded profile on the teeth had ground down to almost knife edged points. Eventual failure was inevitable so I upgraded to the HD gears.

The plastic trans gears were another story. The idler blew out on about the 3rd pack and everything was replaced with Robinson Racing gears.
