Quarry Creeper
I'v been out of the RC crawler game for a while. Decided to revive my Wraith the other day and while ordering parts came across the Proline Ambush. I read around and decided to get one. I've never had a leaf sprung RC before so in that respect it will be a learning experience. It was getting dark when I got home so I only ran it for about 30 minutes.
Initial impressions:
1) Pretty capable out of the box. Mini Flat Irons work well.
2) Stiff. Not sure if RC leaf springs break in? Or if I should remove a leaf or two (there are 3 total).
3) Prone to flops due to the above.
4) Would like if it were a bit wider.
5) Not sure how I feel about the different "speeds". In Low it seems to bind up way too much. Need to mess with the remote settings I guess.
6) Bigger/wider tires would be good.
7) *Slightly* longer wheelbase would also be good.
Overall I am pretty happy for the price. Seems very well thought out and put together. Also seems pretty stout for such a small rig. I like the idea that its small enough I can toss it in my backpack and take it wherever.
Plans are to turn it into a first gen Hilux.I have ordered a 1/25 scale Toyota Hilux model kit but it won't be here for a while. In the meantime I am going to explore weights and possibly remove a leaf or two to see if it softens it up at all. With a little more stability this thing would kick ass.
Also hoping some decent aftermarket comes out. I know Proline has mentioned it. I will try and shoot some good rock crawling video and pictures tomorrow.
All the flex I'm getting bone stock - can barely make it up a pack of 99s and a box of gum.
Gonna have to remedy this.
