Hey everyone!
When the TRX4M Bronco came out I really liked the looks of it. I suppose its because I like the new Broncos but would never personally own one (No offense to anyone who does, if my wife wanted it I would back it in a heartbeat). I also wanted something I could fit in a small hardcase, kinda like the size of a lunch kit.
I started out initially happy with my purchase. Yes, it seemed underpowered but I liked the foundation. I set out to replacement basically everything on it with TRX accessories, eventually swapping some out for other brands (aluminum for brass, wheels + tires, etc.). I tried the TRX method wheels with their tires and weight sets.
I also picked up some RC4WD Black Rhino Armory wheels and Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires. I wasn't happy with the performance so I went away from scale and bolted up a set of Mud Slingers.
I had came across Furitek's Lizard line while scrolling and wanted to give it a shot. I also wanted to up the voltage to 3S. I removed everything, esc, servo, motor and began laying out new components. I built a shelf out of left over Lexan to place the RX on over the rear axle. I then stuck the Lizard ESC on top of that. I brought it to my LHS to show them this new Furitek stuff, at the time they had never seen it in person. They're now a dealer
I used the truck on and off but I wasn't happy with the electronics. I decided I wanted to stuff a larger can in there to help bring temperatures down.
I tried other motors by Furitek but I wasn't satisfied. After careful consideration I opted for a Hobbywing motor that would just fit in there. The turns are lower than what I would like, but on 2s it works great! Temps are low and there is plenty of wheel speed when needed. I had to completely redo the electronics layout, but it's worth it.
Another thing that I started to mess with was the lights. When I switched the body from black to white I left the pro scale (?) light kit in the black body. A Canadian company sells a light controller to be able to reuse that kit so I ordered it up and swapped those in. Some other updates and upgrades are some parts from LGRP.
I ordered up a set of wheel and tires to try. I threw them on a few weeks ago but they were definitely the wrong tire for the terrain. It was a place I hadn't crawled before, I usually go to a quarry. This was close to my new house which was better than a 45 minute drive. Unfortunately it was soft sand and the TRX4M wasn't much fun to try and drive with pin tires.
