550 Motors on a modified Clod

Does anyone run 550 motors with modified clods? I have seen some running the 7700 KV Castle systems, but I would think that a little more torque would be advantageous.

On the other hand, are motors like the Tekin 4800 KV SC4X too powerful for the drive train using stock gears? My ebay Purchase should arrive today, and I already have 2 Mamba Max Pros on the way. I also have a ton of motors, but no two are identical. My question is really which additional motor I should buy and whether I can run a 550 without issue. I am leaning to another 4000KV or 4800 KV Tekin since both are sensored, but I am sure the collective wisdom of the forum could outline the pros and cons of such a shoice.

I will likely run on 2S, although 3S is another possibility. The MT4G3 can handle all the speed I can throw at it and I only run it on 4S.

I don't have any brushless experience but I know the traxxas titan 550's have been used. If you don't get an answer here then check out clodtalk, plenty of brushless builds over there."thumbsup"

Thanks. For some reason I thought that the titans were actually shorter than the SC4X motors. I have a "550" 4 pole brushless rated at 4300 KV that's a China special and it is nearly the same length as a 540. It seems not all 550s are created equal. I'm still trying out how to mount my Castle 1415 2400kv motor in my modified ground pounder but I think it's just too long....

Ever thought about getting a pair of Toro esc/brushless motor combos?

They're pretty cheap and comes with programing card.

I went with the MMP which I got a good deal on from Ebay, and the two SC4X motors I got are 4800 KV and I got them used off of Ebay, again for about 40 bucks per motor.

I wanted to stay away from 4 pole torque and also wanted sensored operation. The seller finally shipped the clod to me this weekend, 3 weeks after I paid him. I had to open up a fraud claim on his A$$ to get him to fulfil his obligations. What a pain.

Hopefully this works out okay. We will see. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

Dealing with a similar shipping problem on eBay with the clod I bought a week ago. He printed the label but still has not dropped it off at ups.

Well mine arrived! It has a Novak Super a Rooster and the two aforementioned brushed motors. I hope to fab the body mounts tomorrow for my pretty trick Proline Apocalypse body with the summit bumpers (and body mounts) extra lights for the roof, and of course the obligatory exo cage. Hope to have pics tomorrow of the aesthetics worked out.

It looks like the SC4X motors will fit, but just barely. After I get the mounts fabbed out of nylon, the electronics will come second. Then I will be overdue on fixing the suspension which is pretty much terrible...
