Why don't more people run 7 cell 8.4 volt batteries? I just ran one in my honcho and was quite surprised at how big of a difference it was compared to my 7.2v 6 cells. Is it just more common to upgrade to lipo, or is there another reason more people aren't using the 8.4v ?

Volt for volt, lipo's are a ton lighter depending on that MaH rating. Say you're using an 8.4 3200MaH nimh, a 3200 7.4 volt lipo will be almost half the weight as the nimh pack and possibly smaller.

Cuz someone will make fun of them for running a freakin stick pack... No seriously, I run 5000mah 7-cells in my scaler, trouble free. Run brushed motors too. Yes, I'm a dinosaur...

it also will give you pretty much full power till lvc....no losing power like stick packs....also last driving wise a ton longer....lipos are same price and even cheaper then stick packs....

You can call me a dinosaur too, I like my stick packs, and as nice a lipos sound, for me it's too much hassle to worry about running them too low or burning my house down charging them, I'll take my plug and play stick packs any day lol

Did you know your cell phone has a lithium battery?

Yea, but I hear far less stories of cell phones blowing up/catching fire than I do lipo hobby batteries. I'm sure lipos are a lot safer than I have heard but I'm still sticking with my stick batteries

Not hating on lipo or nothing but NiMH don't taper off...
