So this is my first real deal rc car ever. As a kid I of course had some toys r us little things, but nothing as awesome as this. A buddy of mine brought his to my job and I was instantly sold. I have my 1:1 overland vehicle that we use, but I thought this would be great to get my kids into off-roading and fun for downtime on trails and camping. Got really lucky when I found out our one distributor deals with Traxxas so I got a great deal on it. So I ordered it that day and the next day it was delivered to the shop.
So our first outing we went out to some local hiking trails and had a blast. Of course the first things I noticed was while the defender looked great, it was super too heavy and would tumble easily. So being a Toyota fan I wanted the hilux. So here’s a before and after.

Couldn’t get the window film to lay how I wanted so I did matte black vinyl on the outside instead.

Next thing I found like everyone else is that the steering servo is weak as can be. Most times I’d have to get it rolling before the wheels would turn and that was pointless in more technical areas. So while I planed on changing that, I ended up going through a half dozen servo horns stripping the plastic teeth on them. I don’t have a picture of it but I finally got a Power HD WP-23KG Waterproof servo and a protek servo horn. That combined allowed it to have more than enough power to turn and no more stripped horns.
Next on the list was a rear cage setup instead of the bed and a light kit. I like some of the 1:1 truggys and thought I’d try and replicate one. So i ordered the axial bed cage. I’d like to do a full exoskeleton setup, but I’m learning stuff as I go so I thought I’d wait till I get a little more comfortable with it. I picked up a light kit with light bar from our lhs. Looked cool and that’s the only reason I did it honestly.

So as you can see in the previous picture i enjoy water and the stock foams took a beating. While the stock tires perform great with them being as flat I found it doesn’t work nearly as good as deflating my 1:1 tires. So I ordered some integy 1.9 beadlocks and the proline bfg krawlers. got out the white paint pen and hooked up the lettering.

Found out the beadlocks hit the portal so I ordered some gpm 12mm adapters. Gave it some nice stance which added to a wider wheel base and more stability.

I got a bumper and sliders that you’ll see in some pics, can’t remember who made them. Found them cheap on eBay. Used them for a bit, but ended up pulling them off as they weren’t as functional as I though they’d be. Here’s just some pics out and about.

I wish I could see it NML, but the pictures didn't show up for me. What hosting site did you use?

Is the rig a TRX-4?

I think it may be the new version of Tapatalk I'm using since other people's pictures aren't showing up either. I'll try some things and revert to the older version if necessary. Or it could be my internet or Tapatalk's servers, in which case there's nothing to be done.

Update: cleared the cache, restarted the app, and now I have pictures back! :)

Won't an exoskeleton make it top-heavy again? I thought you were trying to avoid that. :|

The body right now is lighter and lower than the defender was. Since the exo would be tight with the body I can’t see it adding that much weight to topple over. But that depends on materials used. It’s a idea that would be scraped if it’s not doable since I’m really only looking into if for looks and not needing it to serve a real purpose.

I think it's looking pretty good as is, but I acknowledge that everyone has their own different tastes.
