A possible straignt axle maxx start

I really want the look of a straight axle truck, possibly something resembling a scale truck. I havnt decided if I'm making a crawler or possibly recreating a Baja truck. Either one will have a "frame" made out of diamond plate aluminum ( I already have it), with steel cross braces. I might use the Maxx front suspension for a baja truck, otherwise I'll do something similar and make a solid axle out front too.
Everything is made from steel. It isnt much so car, but maybe it can give a better fabricator some ideas.

Wow, that thing looks like it could handle a tactical nuke strike! It seems like steel would be way too heavy, you'd have to make a custom drive train to handle it. If you do decide to go ahead with a build post pics when you get it done!

I like the square tube look. I built a set similar with round tube out of allum. I have a second project in the initial stages and i may use some square allum. tube for that one. Keep us posted!

Great pics. I would have rather gone with round tubing, but I couldnt find any the right size. Everything the axles would fit in looked huge.
The square is a tight fit, but I still have to clearance inside the tubing.
Aluminum would be easier to work with, but I cant weld it.
I have access to the steel and mig, so thats what I used.
I can clean the pieces up quite a bit with the grinder afterwards, but for now it's just to see if it will even work

I used 1" tubing that was fairly thick so as not to burn through tube when welding. I used a dremel and some hand files to smooth out the welds. I am undecided as to the finnal finish but I am leaning tward a finish using a vibratory media polisher. Also the tires in the picture are rc4wd 40 crushers, if any one is intersted.

This project died out. It's because of the body I choose to top it off with.
I bought a baja race truck body and decided to go twards a basher truck.
I ended up making a custom e-maxx chassis 3/4" longer than the plastic one, new skid plates and some assorted braces all out of aluminum.

Would any of you happen to have links to other custom solid axle builds? I have all of the tools to make them, I am just struggling on where to start.
