Adopt a newbie todaayy!!!

Hello all sorry if this has been asked a million times but what is a Berg? I see this stated in many posts but wasnt sure if it was a brand like Losi or Axial.

A Berg is one of the original MOA (Motor Over Axle) crawlers. From my limited exposure to rock crawling (just got into it) the Berg is in the same catogory as the Bully. The mfg website of the Berg is http://www.bergcrawler.com/. I understand that the latest version is now called the NewAge CM101 with the only difference being in the shocks. I just pick up a used Enroute 2.2 Berg and am very happy with it. Hope this helps a little. 8)

Some of your info. was a little off, so I went ahead and edited it for you."thumbsup"

Thanks guys it does help alot. So basically the Berg is a mfg. brand that is MOA design. I keep getting confused because I will see quite a few different looking styles of crawlers and in there title it will state it is a Berg but these must be different models from the mfg.? Or is it that any crawler that is MOA is considered a Berg? Thanks

What you see is most likely folks using only the berg axles and the rest (chassis, body, tires, wheels, links, steering, etc.) has been pieced together....

This actually clears up everything for me. Plus from the sounds of it the Berg axles are the ultimate axles to have. Thanks

A little direction needed please.

Newbie here in need of guidance.Hey guys whats up, sifting through threads and this seemed like best spot to start. I have a ton of expierence with building 1.1 jeeps and toyotas, but this is my first rc crawler. Having a built jeep I understand what dig is and proper four link geometry, high steer, wheel base adv disadv blah blah blah. What I need help with is the electrical side of things. I will be recieving a redcat rs10 in the next few days and I want to be able to drive it for an extended period of time. It comes with a 8 hour wall charger and some type of battery(7.2v 1500mAh )Waiting 8hrs to play simply will not do. I was wondering if the battery that comes stock is good, how much run time can I expect from a charge, and should I get more of the same batteries and a quick charger or uprgrade battery packs? Thanks in advance. Steven

I dont know about "ultimate", but they do work well and there is tons of aftermarket support for them. "thumbsup"

Agreed. I believe that moa axles(berg, bully, clod etc.) have their pro's and cons, The ultimate comp axle is the axle that you choose. It mostly comes down to how well you can drive, pick lines, tune your rig, and know what your truck is going to do while your driving it, theres nothing worse than building a rig and then not practicing. Once you get your truck built, tuned, tested, and you can predict how the rig is going to act in certain situations. You will be saying"Thank god I Practiced". Then you will realize that the axle is only as ultimate as you make it, and you will realize that you have the drive and determination to come back and compete at the next comp.:)

shocks

I recently purchased a used Enroute 2.2 Berg. The axles are Berg but the rest is a mix. It came with a mounted set of silver spring, black plastic shocks (112 mm eyelet to eyelet). With the crawler came a set of extra parts which had the original berg shock in it. Reading many of the Berg build threads, I dont see anyone using the stock berg shocks (gold aluminum blue spring) ... how come? Also, does anyone have a guess of what brand my plastic mounted shocks are?
Thanks

I currently fly planes and love it but i have always been amazed at these little machines and all they are capable of. But i have no idea about anything in this branch of rc. I know a good amount about lipos and esc and motors and servos but thats about it so i have a few noob questions.

Noob question #1. Can a truck be set up on a Aircraft tx?

#2. Whats the best way to get started as far as a truck? RTR, rolling chassis, or from nothing? I like the idea of biulding one from just a chassis but is that expensive?

#3. what is an estimated start up cost? I know that this can range greatly but just a low estimate and high.

#4. What type of guys tend to enjoy this hobby and is it fun by yourself or do you really need some buddys to really enjoy it?

#5. I fly planes and am in a club, is there clubs or "get togethers" for this?

Thanks in advance for anyone that can help me out.

I have posted in this thread before but never got answer or help. I own a few rigs but need help with basic setup for tools (drivers, soldering tool, charger, etc). I don't need to best.

I have no clue how to solder, and electronics are like greek to me. The hard part is I'm much more hands on learner lol.

Any other advice would be great.

what an awesoem idea to adopt a newb and help them out for a little bit, this should be done by more people

I completely agree, I am new to crawling and there is not a lot of info out there on this stuff. I joined this site hoping I could find some. I kind of regret joining because all I have found is a bunch of people making fun of the new guys. QUIT COMPLAINING AND HELP US OUT!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious how are they making fun of you? I'M a complete newb to the crawling scene but every question I have asked no matter how dumb it was answered very quickly and usually more than 1 person responded and not once did someone make fun of me

X2 everyone on here has seemed to be very helpful. there was this one guy.... but i straightened him out:lmao:. other then him nothing but help from everyone

Back to nightflyer. I am fairly new to crawlers but can answer some of your questions. You can use an aircraft transmitter. The tx would probably have to be customized or set to left throttle center so you have reverse and forward. Also more than likely your tx has more channels than you will need. 4 channels is plenty if you plan on a crawler with dig,(have power only in front or rear or both). The best way to get started in my opinion is from a chassis or a kit. I went with a kit when I got into it due to not having a hobby store knowledged in rc crawlers. When you buy a kit though (approximately $250-$400usd for quality) you will still have to supply tx, rx, one or two servos, one or two esc's, bec, one or two motors, and tires. Of course batteries and charger too. Obviously a rtr crawler will be significantly cheaper due to lower grade parts and electronics normally ranging from $300 to $600. When you start from chassis expect to be in it anywhere from $1000 to whatever you want to spend. I say $1000 cause no matter how hard I try to keep my budget at that price I always go over with whatever kit it is. After you get into it though and do more research you will find ways just like everyone else to save money, i.e: 35mm film can motor guards, 5hr energy drink bottles, bend your own linkage ect. The question you asked about what kind of guys do this activity was good humor, thank you. My only answer to that would be since you are looking into it and it intrigues you than I guess the same kind of people partake in rc crawling and scale trailing. Lastly, depending on your location would be your answer to a group or club, your local hobby shop should know. We have a list of clubs for helicopters and airplanes up here in the northwest but have yet to find a crawler club or a hobby store that even knows what a dig system is on a crawler. Hope this helped

not sure how this works but i am doing a 8x8 build and was wondering about finding a body or if thats another iten i have to fabricate myself? thanks

Speed demon

I want to build a i guess you would call it "city" crawler. I want it to be able to go fast on a straight street, but i also live in new Orleans and our streets are full of potholes and deep trenches, and there are abandned lots full of tree roots, mud, smashed concrete, etc... so i want to be able to cawl on some pretty awesome terrain to. I am pretty new to crawling, but not to building electronics and toys, so whats a good place for me to start. I am thinking id like to spend about 200 not counting the motor ( I'm gonna spend a lot on a brushless motor) and i wanna build either a 1/10 or 1/8 scale size and its gonna be electric, battery powered

I have bought a used AX10 that I am planning on building. I will soon be changing my esc and motor as well as other things. My question seems very newb to me but I am a newb. My crawler is faster in reverse... is this normal? It seems like it should be the other way around. My question is... Since the wires to the motor are soldered on can I swap the two connections leading to the esc and have it faster in forward than in reverse? Would this hurt the motor since it is brushed? Thanks
