Hey guys, I was finishing up my install for my Team Lockedup membership challenge on my Scx10 Dingo with the XR mod and broke a bolt off in the aluminum c-hub. Wasn't even torquing down on it yet! :x Was wondering what the best method is to get it out of there so I don't have to spend the crazy amount of cash they want for new c-hubs. Also if you guys might be able to tell me what this type of bolt is called so I can search for a new one. Thanks for any help and advice!!! "thumbsup"

If there's enough bolt extruding to grab it with pliers, I'd start there. I'll usually grind flat spots on the protrusion so that I've got something to really grip with the pliers.

If there isn't enough sticking out, but there's still a little bit of the bolt protruding, I'd suggest that you grind it flat in order to use a punch to accurately punch the center of it, then use a small drill bit to drill it. I keep left handed drill bits around for this, because usually as I'm drilling with a left handed bit, the broken piece itself will come out. If you don't have left handed bits, you can drill it normally, then use a broken bolt extractor tool, but very few of those are small enough to tackle this tiny 3mm stuff. The lefty drill bits are almost always a better solution with stuff this small.

If there's nothing protruding, I'll usually take a tiny grinding bit and carefully carve a notch into the center area of the bolt to guide my drill bit.

Hey Justin, I have some more of those if that would help you. Can you get the broken part out of the bolt out. I can put them in the mail today.
(3mm shoulder screw)

Is that the lower king pin? If so, disassemble your knuckle/c-hub, then use a small (1/16"ish) drill bit through the top hole and into the screws remains on the bottom hole. Going at it from that direction will have the same effect as using a left hand drill bit from the bottom, ie: it will try to unscrew the piece (pushing it back out the way it came from) while drilling. If it doesn't come out with a 1/16" bit, keep working up in size until you get it. Just go slow, being careful not to put too much pressure and break your bit, and don't hit the threads in the top hole.

Thanks you guys! I'm going to give drilling it from the top a try since I have no left handed bits. There's no bolt sticking out of the bottom. So grabbing it with plyers is out. Going to heat the bolt with my soldering iron to hopefully break the locktite loose then I'll give it a shot. Thank you again! Don't know what I'd do without my awesome forum brothers. "thumbsup"

I haven't found any local. Both hobby shops asked "what's a shoulder screw?" Lmao! If you don't mind doing that Ernie it would be greatly appreciated. Any way you can send me one sheet of the scale Codyboy Designs stickers? I just need two of the smallest ones for my tool box on the Trx. Thank you brother!!! "thumbsup""thumbsup"

YES to all the previous replies and I don't use stainless steel hardware because it's weaker and I've had worse experiences than this on several occasions. :ror: :)

A few years back I got a 22 piece set from Werkzeug on Amazon - wasn't a bad price, about $19.99.

Smallest was about 1.5mm.

Haven't used it yet!
