Wasn't sure if I should post this here or over in the scale section...

Decided it was time to try my hand at a tube chassis, but wanted to do something big and fairly simple. Instead of a crawler I settled on something like an armored troop transport or urban assault vehicle. Either way its gonna get a gun of some sort...lol.

This is still in a pretty rough, beginning stage. Wheelbase is going to be at 14", overall it should be close to 20". I'm not planning on much suspension movement, and its going to sit almost fully compressed. Haven't decided exactly what tire I want under it, so I'm mocking it up with some Flat Irons. If anything the final rubbers will be a bit shorter. The working title of this build is currently "das Boat" for obvious reasons.

On to the pics...

In the pics the wheels/tires are set at the approximate width. There will be fender flares to cover them up top. Using Axial axles and drivetrain.

The cockpit will be shaped kinda aircraft style, split down the center. The windshield will be made from lexan, and if that doesn't work out, polycarbonate. The "armor" plating will be thin aluminum sheets, primed and painted probably flat black. I'm also going to try to add a working door in the rear to toss some GI Joes into it.

The plans are to make the body kind of a clam shell to access the guts. A battery compartment will be underneath for easy access.

I'm also planning at least one gun turret on top, and a push/light bar up front.

Well one way would to get an electric Airsoft gun and modify it a bit."thumbsup"

The Walther P99 Full / Semi Auto Firing Electric Airsoft Gun is a 1:1 full sized replica of the Walther P99. This is a truly awesome airsoft gun that shoots in both semi automatic mode and by switching the selector switch, you can shoot in fully automatic mode.
Unload an entire magazine in one trigger squeeze of the P99 airsoft gun or carefully aim and shoot in single shot mode. You do not need to re-cock after each shot since this quality air gun uses batteries to power it. 4 AAA batteries are required to operate the P99 air soft gun which are not included. Kit Includes: P99 Clear Pistol, Two 15 Shot Clips, Starter pack of bb's and Manual.
Authentic 1:1 Scale replica of the Walther P99 Full licensed Walther Trademarks all over gun from Walther Color: Clear Power: Electric Action: Full / Semi Auto Length: 7in. I'll pass on that one. This'll probably end up in the hands of my 8 yr old. He don't get nothin' that has the potential to be loaded and fired. :-P

Hmm... will it be able to float?

Doubtfull. Though if I decide to sell it, you can buy it and let me know how it goes..."thumbsup"

Holy Crap! You're indavertently building the Dobbertin Surface orbiter! All you need to do is add a second rear axle and make it a 6x6...

I realized that once I took a good look at it. Once I did see what I was building, I wanted to do a scale version, but I don't have an extra axle available. If I had enough smaller sized wheels, I could do it like this...

Time for an update! Had some time today, so I thought I'd stand around in a hot ass garage for a few hours brazing some metal..."thumbsup"

I'm glad to see that you are still working on this thing. It will be a crazy one indeed. "thumbsup"

A little update. Its actually gone a little further than it is here in the pics. The suspension is in, and I temporarily hooked everything up and bombed it around the yard.

This is it with some saran wrap around it to give it some shape. I haven't decided what the shell will be made with yet...

Hand lay some CF pre-preg over it and then spray it with urethane to protect and waterproof it. "thumbsup"

I thought about that, 'cause it would look totally bad-ass if I did. I don't want the "ribs" to show though...I want it smooth.

I tried fiberglass, but it had a reaction with the wrap and it came out pretty crappy looking. I may yet go with aluminum...
