Well, after a few comps with my modified night crawler, and doing very well, I've decided, I'm addicted to crawling. That being said, it was time to take the next step. So after lots of thought, and selling a couple things that just weren't for me, I made my decision, it's comp crawler time!
My local shop finally got in most of my big order. I was going to wait till it was complete to post anything, but I figured what the hell, I look at everyone else's rigs, might as well share mine.
LCC Race Roller # 4608, ordered most every upgrade that Losi has to offer, (except the carbon arms, already had bad luck with them once...). Got it taken apart when I got home, checked the gears, drilled for grease ports and topped off with grease. Threw on the springs and travel limiters on the shocks. I'm currently waiting on some other shipments already in the mail, including:
-Pro-Line VW body (I won a free item from pro-line at my last comp),
-R/C Bros lcg servo mount, flush mount servo clamps, and lcg dig mount,
-Losi 20* hub carriers
All I need to get done is some trimming and painting of the bodies, and figure out just what I'm going to use for a power plant on this thing. I know I'll be running 2s or 3s, brushless, sensored, and prob. around a 17.5. Just need to figure out what esc/motor combo I'm gonna go with.
Some pics thus far:
Just waiting for some shiny parts.

Put my grease ports behind the axle, no chance of hitting rocks, getting pulled out, or packed with anything.
litewait2002.jpg

Ti pins, alum. pin holder, the ever popular o-ring mod.
litewait2004.jpg

Almost the same shock setup as off my LNC, gold springs out back, grey up front, 1/2" travel limiters.

New paint, (I usually do single colors, so this was a big step for me, lol).

Thanks for looking, I'll get more pics up as she comes together.

id say for the esc go with the novak goat 3s. it comes with either a 1.5 or an 18.5 motor i think and it has a setting for rigs with worm gears"thumbsup"

I like the info from Novak on the goat, and price isn't bad, but I hear lots of not so good reviews on them. I'm really not sure what I'm gonna go with. I just got my first Castle setup for my stadium truck (a sidewinder v2 setup), and am way happy with it so far, but the footprint of their esc's concerns me as far as taking up a lot of space and weight. The Tekin is a tiny little thing, but unsure cause I've never owned anything Tekin, and the Novak gets good reviews for their motors, but I hear lots of crap about their esc's.

the only thing i would change and im gona do it to mine in the am is put a castle bec on instead of the novak bec. i havent had ne problems with mine

so far, i'm very satisfied with my mamba max pro. i too was concerned about the size of the thing, but it fits well on my upper link plate. combine that with the adjust ability of the castle link, and the ability to run 6s if you so desire, it can't be beaten in my eyes. i can keep ya updated (or just watch my thread, i blabber on...and on....) when my tekin redline 17.5 gets in. the tekin esc's, at least the fxr, seem to be having a bit of issues lately, but i don't know that much about them. as for the novak esc....meh, it'll control a motor, chances are it'll do it for a long time too. but bang for the buck wise, castle mamba max pro plus a motor of your choosing.

I'll be getting a bec, and i like the castle stuff. Perhaps I should look into all the kits available, not just the max. I'll never be running a 6s, so not too sure what to do. It's got worm gears, so would a sidewinder v2 work? Not like I really need a drag brake.

sv2 is sensorless only, so not really in a crawler, need the sensors to get rid of the cogging that plagues sensorless motors.

Ahh, thats right, thanks! I knew I was looking at the Novak SS chromed out sensored motor at my local shop for a reason...Maybe I will try the Goat setup...

20* hub carriers on, vw body came in this am. Just waiting on my rcbros stuff. I'm thinking of going with the Tekin FXR esc and a Novak Ballistic 17.5 for my power for this one. Anyone running that combo?

no one is, because an fxr is a brushed only esc, its the rs and the rs pro from tekin that do brushless. i will recommend a tekin motor, got mine in and its smooth and has more than enough power for me....

I'm very happy with the Tekin RS on my LNC, running it with a Novak 17.5 motor. I was running the Goat 3s on my truck before I switched to the RS. Never had any glitching issues but I was wanting an ESC with a smaller footprint to position it better in the truck.

RS, that's it. I saw an FX in the shop and got the names confused. I'm going for the Tekin for the same reason as you, tiny footprint. I won't be using this truck till the summer series starts, so I have a couple months, and I suppose something may come out before then, who knows.

ahh, its possible something may come out. the rs is tiny, i don't think you can really go smaller than it, and it seems to be a pretty good esc. the thing that really scared me off of it was the price difference of it and the mmp.

Hey robbob, don't show any of the other guys the new secret weapon, lol. How'd you do on saturday, or more importantly, who took 1st in sportsman?

LOL wont say anything.

Saturday was good, took a tough 3rd spot to a couple of good bergs. Last comps in 2 weeks and its down to like 2 points difference.

Good job on 3rd! (I wonder who was running the bergs, lol).

I'll be there for the last one, I was 7th after 2 comps, but missed the past one, so I'll need to not only go, but place at the next one to make myself happy. Hopefully I'll have this rig up and running for the summer series.
