any Wakeboarders here?

i was at Texas Ski Ranch over the weekend for the Texas RC Super Boat nats, and took a look at there cable setup, pretty neat (ive always riden behind a boat)
anyway ive been riding a '99 Obien Blunt for years and wanting to upgrade. its so old technology and cant hold an edge for crap.
im REALLY digin the '08 Liquid force lyman

but im affraid is a bit to pricy, ive also always liked there Team, and Trip boards as well.
hyperlite got alot of nice ones too, but its hard to find a good deal on the multifin designs i want.

anyway, what are you guys riding?

Wake boarding is bad. The last time I did it was 1996 and I ended up with a broken big toe and a concussion. With my f'ed up back, knee, and shoulder I couldn't do it anymore anyways, but the broken toe and concussion stops me from even missing it:lol:

That ski ranch is awesome! I grew up just north of there (in San Marcos). Wakeboarding is fun....much easier than skiing.

you should see it now! they have moto cross, skateboarding, rock climbing, boat dealership, they have it ALL!

agreed i can teach someone to get up on my wakeboard MUCH faster/easier than teaching them to get up on skis.

now past that wakeboarding is tougher, ski you just go left and right and lean to cut your bouyee. learning WB tricks takes alot longer.

Yeah, I didnt know too many tricks, but it was simple as hell to get up one one. Maybe it is because I have skiied quite a bit before and was rather comfortable in the water.

I live on a lake down here in the south and we board as often as we can, even 4 or 5 times in one day during the summer. I love but damn it can kick your ass if your not lucky.

amen, i grew up on the lake skiing all my youngster years was always good. kneeboard as well. i got into wakeboarding late. never get very far, as soon as i start riding alot life gets in the way. i really want to progress this summer, my goal is to start with learning ollies, and simple 180s and by the end of the summer be able to do 360, maybe with a grab if im lucky. probly too high of hopes with my boat, not much of a wake.:lol: thats why i really want to work on getting insane ollies.

We have a pretty sweet cable park out south of KC. It is about 45 mins away and I only go when my little bro comes in town. It is just so much more fun then behind the boat IMO. I can hit a slider or a box but have not tried for any grabs or anything (unless you could grabbing my junk after a few crazy hard face plants :roll.

cant wait to try this thing. im sure its leaps and bounds better than my 99 obrien blunt. ugly as sin (top) but has everything i was looking for, hard carver, wide tips for ollies, 4 out-board fins, and aluminum fins to withstand sliders. only thing i wish it had was 3 stage rocker for more agressive pop, and maybe a deeper side rail, a 17" mid section would have been cool too.

congrats on the new board! man i havent been forever, last time i went i face planted so hard it tor an earing out! haha i got to ride in the boat with a bunch of toyota sponsored guys a couple years ago and holy isht those dudes were good! they were doing double ups and getting like 20ft high! one dude cracked his board in half landing off a double up, didnt think it was possible.

wow that sounds like an awesome time. yeah those guys are good. yeah breaking boards in half is actually pretty common. hyperlite boards are allitle heavier are rarely crack. the liquid force, ronix, etc light boards tend to be the ones that crack (or even snap in half)
i cant wait to try this thing!!! i just pray my old bindings fit. have you guys priced those things :shock: like $200 now :shock:

Can you use the fins at your park?

We have to remove all fins to hit any of the sliders/boxes/ramps.

ive never asked, or actually riden the cable. but that makes since. i hope note i specifically wanted a locked in hard carver.
damn. good point harley, ill have to call. the fins in the 3DS are aluminum so im sure they could do some damage....

Yeah I know our park here gets pretty picky over their plastic. That crap is about as pricey as Delrin.

I know I slide around a lot more without the fins but I get the hang of it after a lap or so. It is actually kind of fun, very drift like

So what's a good board for a beginner. I have only been out a couple times but I'm loving wakeboarding so far.

Here's me trying my first wake jump..lame I know. :lol: And my friend's boat, my boat ain't near as cool but it's better than nuthin. :lol:

thats a very nice boat, and a nice jump as well. wake looks well shaped. your luckier than most of us. pop's hurricane is horrible.
what do you weigh? shoe size?
you need bindings as well? ill point ya in the right direction

I weigh about 190, size 10 shoe, about 5' 9". Yeah I'd need bindings, and I board "goofy foot".

Thanks, yea Steve's boat works really good. It's a 20' Glastron with a Chevy 350 so it puts out a nice wake. My boat is an 18' Bayliner with a V6 and no wakeboard bar. It works great for tubing but not as well as Steve's for boarding.

id recomend obrien, there great boards, last forever, perform great and much cheaper because they dont say LF or HL on them;-) my favorite pro rides obrien. they also have some nice board/binding combos

for you your gonna need a 138-141cm board and Large bindings

my number 1 pic for you would be the Vision

1. Vision
2. System
both of the above boards have continous rocker.

3. (all tied, you decide on what you like) Natural, Cartel, Player, Demented, and Fluent
all of the above boards are 3 stage rocker, a more violent pop, and allitle more unpredictable on the water, thats why i choose the continous rocker as the top 2)
