Anybody Run A Capo JkMax?

The transmission has been my biggest issue with it, not the only but the biggest for sure.

Make sure you have allot of loctite on hand as well.

I'll see if I can get a pic of the motor when I get home from work tonight

Do you have a programmable ESC and Remote set up?

Or just a basic setup??

I use a flysky noble and use 6 channels for it. Steering, gas, 2 speed transmission, adjustable drag brake from the mamba x, light controller for the interior lights/ exterior lights, and a light bar.

I like the mamba x esc, but if you can get one I would recommend a Holmes hobbies motor over the castle slate motor. No price difference, but you get a better motor.

Here's the best pic I could get without taking the whole motor/transmission out. There was a screen that had to be removed otherwise the motor post would hit. This is a brushed 550 can motor, so if you get a sensored 540 brushless it will fit no problem.

If you go brushed a 550 can is the only way you should go. Mine weights in at 15lbs and you can't get a small enough pinion in it in my opinion. Coupled with the other problem that the stock pinion and spur gears are helicut it really limits your ability to adjust your gearing. A really piss poor setup.

Which is another reason I made a plate to mount standard spur gear. I run traxxas 32p gears in mine now.

Should be next to the hood right on the top, it's really small and has a aluminum case.

Its all in video not pics

One reason I asked is have you tried adjusting the take off yet, maybe make it 95% or 90% to see if that stops the issues?

I have a throttle curve and punch control on, but the base problem is still there. The shafts in the transmission are 5mm with cuts for e-clips and through pins which doesn't leave allot of material left. For a 15lbs rig it should have had a 6mm shafts in the transmission or more.

Another thing that chaps my ass is they used 5x10mm bearings for the pinion gear in the axles, that is allot of stress and those bearings fail frequently.

I have one for a year now.

- main shaft in the transmission uses c clips to keep the gears in place, which also creates a weak spot and will snap it. It's just to heavy and the shaft is too small. I welded all the c clip spots, then turned it on a lathe to true it up and make it smooth. Then use metal sleeves to keep the gears in place. No breaks since.

Hmm, Maybe Ill send you mine!! LOL
Seriously, maybe do this as a service??

Im sure you looked for different shafts that would fit???

The main shaft is cut from a piece of hexagon rod, guessing is just a standard metric Allen wrench size. A section of it was left hexagon and the mechanism that shifts between first and second gear slides on it.

You would have to turn a new shaft from a piece of that and if you made the shaft thicker you would have to do allot of extra work. The bearings in the transmission are already too small, something like 5x8? So you would have to machine the pass through in the gears bigger and put larger bearing pockets in them. One thing capo did do right is make some really hard gears, I have had very little wear on them. so machining them isn't going to be fun.

Thanks for your impute!! Its nice to have someone to bounce ideas off that have experience with this!

So it would be better to just start thinking how to replace the entire drive system it sounds like.
That could be a project for down the road!

I am using some Zippy 3000mah compact batteries that fit about perfect. They are 135x45x18mm. The battery tray can take a bit longer battery, but not much wider. You might be able to get a 22mm high battery in, anything thicker you are going to have to mod the receiver/fuel cell box or not use it.
