Anyone have a Harbor Freight Drill Press?

It's a tool I've been wanting to buy. It will mostly be used for r/c stuff, so I don't think I need the best money can buy. I'm on a budget and felt some of the options from harbor freight might fill the need.

i got the same one in my shop i think.. and it works great. love my little drill press. you should wait for them to have another sale first though. i think i might've paid 80.00 for mine. hope this helped you out

My local Hobby shop has the HF drill press, it has been there awhile and I know I have used it a few times. Seems like a pretty good unit for the price, sturdy base and a nice base that you put the piece your are drilling on. I have also looked at the Skil unit from Loews, which is the one I think I would get for myself. I think either one would be a great unit for "hobby level" drilling.

For home use there all about the same I guess. If your gonna use the thing everyday for industrial use I dont think Id be looking at one for 100 bucks. Around the house any one of those will probibly last a life time.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Just found out I'm getting a $100 gift card. This should help on whichever one I choose. Right now I'm leaning towards the Skil from Lowe's. I need to go take a look at these in person.

I was researching several of these aswell. I've looked @ the Ryobi, Skill, HF, and the one from TSC. The Ryobi has the best review from customers.

I have the big 16-speed HF drill press, and it not very good for little intercate parts. I tried to center drill all my links for my AX10 and the chuck has way too much run out. I would get a name brand if your using it for RC stuff.

I cant remember what brand but I have a cheapy bench top that has lasted for about two years so far. Works just fine for RC stuff..

have it an dhave used it for RC, wood workign, and other stuff around the home. Wait for a sale, but it is a good one for that. The "adjustable speed" is a difficult belt system, but it works.

Which Ryobi? I only see one from Home Depot and the reviews are not that good.

I have the 5 speed press from Harbor Freight, picked it up on sale at the local store for $59. It works great for small stuff. I've used it pretty hard for the past year and it works great.

check out your local craigslist ads, I found my drill press 2 years ago. It was a slightly used Delta brand that came with the work stand, a vise and a box full of drill bits. I paid $75 for everything, look around and you might find a great deal.

I have the Harbor Freight one, I'm not sure if it's the same, but it works good. I bought it with a coupon they send out in there flyers.

It was ony $44.99, so far it's been trouble free. It's not industrial, but for the cost, I couldn't pass it up. I've seen a recent add and the same drill is on sale again.

I have the big floor one 16 speed, 279.99 or something. I use it for everything, very smooth and precise. About 18 months old. Just make sure you have nice drill bits!

Keep an eye on craigslist. I just picked up an older (I'm guessing mid-'90s) Craftsman 16 speed, 3/4hp, floor standing drill press for $75.
