Anyone ordered from SMF RC???

I ordered a cage from SMF on May 29 2016. Was told it would be completed in 2 weeks.
I inquired about my cage on July 12 and he said his material supplier was on vacation, but that mine would be the first one to go out.
I wrote again on August 5 and he apologized profusely, saying that he had forgotten my order entirely but would get on it first thing in the morning.
Today is August 20 still nothing. I have filed a claim with Paypal.

That's the stuff that made me mad!! Ok, so he's out of tubing, keeps losing power because it's so hot, and has outstanding orders dating 4 + months ago, and he lists a cage on EBay!!!
The same stuff I went through!! I don't understand it! He's not jacking the price way up, when he sells on EBay!

LMAO!! Now you're seeing some of my headaches!!

yea I have emailed him again Friday and today. I basically called him out Friday on the excuses and not getting these cages or at least communicating with people. The I emailed him again today and I still have nothing. Basically if I don't have a tracking number by Friday, I will file a claim on paypal and take my business elsewhere. My 45 day limit to file a claim is coming up and im not taking a chance on this guy keeping my money. This is no way to run a business, even if you have circumstances out of your control or just a huge backlog.

May 7 - Ordered a cage with a 2 week turn around time
June 2 - I email him and get a response about the Floods they were having in TX. Those were some bad floods in TX at the time. He said 2 more weeks and Priority USPS shipping.
June 30 - I emailed him again but no response this time

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on custom builds. I ordered an Ultra 4 from Lue Lee and he kept me up to date on the build. I know it was going to take a while to get and I wasn't in a rush to get it ( I work WAY too much in the summer and don't have time for myself ). Lue kept me informed and received my Ultra 4 and it came out AWESOME!!!
I decided to do the same with Stephen at SMF. This isn't turning to be the same kinda ending as my Mattzilla Bulid.

July 2 - I finally hit him up on Facebook messenger and his reply was about Correct tubing coming in and the cage will be out Monday

Again, I work a LOT in the summer so I've been gone and finally back home. Nothing is at the door upon my return.

Aug 23 - Just sent him another FB Messenger and waiting for a reply.

Lets see what happens after this request for information on my cage.

Totally sucks that its going this way.
 
I finally had a response yesterday from him after I sent a message saying I was going to file a claim through paypal. He said he was working hard to finish my order and he hadn't got any of my previous emails, go figure. He begged to let him finish the cage. So he has been lying the entire time about it being finished.

*update* Now he is saying the cage is finished but he is waiting on the delrin to finish the body mounts. August 11th it was ready to ship he was just waiting on getting it to the post office lol.

I have and there isn't any pic. Im sure he has pics of these in various stages anyway so its a question of trusting the guy. Im pretty sure even with me having the cage in my hand at this point, I wouldn't trust him with a rock

Even when he puts cages on EBay to sell, if you notice the pic in the EBay ad, it's the same pic off his website.

I received the cage today. It fits quite nicely, and appears very well made as well. I have cancelled my paypal claim. Enough said.
 
I've had an order in with this clown for close to 3 months now. Sorry but if you require payment up front you'd better damned well stick to your timelines or at least some semblance of a timeline.

I've gotten the same raft of excuses listed above. This guy is a joke.
 
I was doing the same. Hopefully he learns and make a functional que system with decent estimates...

Yea I have emailed him twice this week AGAIN with no response. I either have a cage shipped with a tracking number or Im opening a dispute with paypal. Enough is enough, he is keeping peoples money and I don't think he has any intent on sending them their products.

*update* Yea more excuses of course. He ordered delrin from a "new" supplier and it will be here Monday or Tuesday lol. I'm going to start a claim on him thru paypal. If you are fed up with the guy and his shady crap, I urge you to do the same. It does seem that he does pick up his feet a little when you start the process.

I figured I’d add my SMF saga's ridiculous timeline to the mix just in case there are folks still considering ordering. I ended up having to file a claim with Paypal to get my money back.

5/2/2016 – Placed an order for 2 cages (A063 and AP072).
5/2/2016 – Responded thanking me for the order and I was quoted 4 weeks or less delivery time. Perfect, I thought, as that would allow me time to finish the AxialFest builds these were going on.
5/17/2016 – Placed another order for a pair of SCX10 sliders (A059).
5/17/2016 - Received an immediate response that he’d received my payment and would get them done ASAP.
6/6/2016 – Sent an email asking how things were going.
No response.
6/9/2016 - Sent another email asking how things were going.
6/9/2016 - Responded saying they’d be done by the end of the week.
6/21/2016 – Sent an email asking about the shipment.
6/22/2016 - Responded saying he'd finished one of the cages and was waiting on tube for the other one. Also said he’d made the wrong set of sliders (Hilux) because he hadn’t asked me which body they were for (The part number I ordered is for the Honcho – not the Hilux.).
6/22/2016-6/23/2016 – Several emails were exchanged where I convinced him to send me the cage that was completed (A063) so I could move forward with at least one of my Axialfest builds. He did so and promised to have the 2nd cage and sliders finished and shipped the following week.
6/27/2016 – Received my A063 cage.
7/2/2016 – Sent an email asking about the status of the other 2 items.
No response.
7/8/2016 – Sent another email and told him that if he was unable to complete my order or was no longer interested to just send me a refund.
7/8/2016 – He responded saying that his tube supplier was on vacation so he ordered from another guy and asked me to wait just a little longer.
Next few weeks - Axialfest (Awesome!), family trips, work, life, etc. Met a couple of other folks at Axialfest who’d recently had similar (Poor) experiences with SMF, too. Frankly, I was already tired of dealing with the guy.
No communication was received from SMF during this timeframe.
8/9/2016 – Sent an email asking for a refund.
8/9/2016 – He responded saying that he thought he’d already taken care of my order (Basically, forgetting about my business! My favorite excuse.). Asked that if I wait a little longer he’d redo my entire order, including the cage he’d already sent, or one of equal value.
8/10/2016 – My initial thought was to give him a little more time. After all, it’d been 3 months already and I had to rethink my Axialfest build plans long ago. What’s another week, right? And maybe get an extra cage? But then I came to my senses and just told him to send the refund and that we’d part ways and move on.
No response.
8/12/2016 – Sent another email asking about the status of the refund.
No response.
8/17/2016 – Sent yet another email asking about the status of the refund.
No response.
8/18/2016 – Submitted a case via Paypal.
8/18/2016 – He responded saying he’d been without power due to the storms and that’s why he’d been silent. (Newsflash: Paypal case fixes downed powerlines!) He said eBay was giving him 10 days to comply with my case but that he’d have my order done way before then.
8/20/2016 – Saw that he’d listed and sold a cage on eBay. Really? Urgh!
No communication.
8/26/2016 – Escalated the case to a claim via Paypal.
No communication.
9/5/2016 - Saw that he’d listed and sold yet two more cages on eBay. Seriously.
No communication.
9/6/2016 – He failed to respond to Paypal by the required date and they issued refunds for the balance.
9/6/2016 – He responds tonight saying he was going to the post office yesterday (Monday - Labor Day) with my order but it was closed. He says that he saw where Paypal refunded me so now he’s going to list my items on eBay, and if I still want them, I can buy them there.

Unbelievable.

The sad part is that I really liked the product. Both the cage I had before and the new one I received in June were nicely made. For what they are, I thought they were a decent value. Such a shame.

If you've ordered from him, or plan to, good luck.

Update: 9/7 - So he sends me another email again offering to sell me the other cage before he lists it on eBay (never said anything about the sliders). I responded and told him sure, just send me the cage and I'll pay for it if and when it arrives. He responded again telling me he's decided to sell only through eBay now. Right. I guess the shoe doesn't fit so well on the other foot. Piece of work, this guy.

dude i got the same problem! im glad im not the only one getting the shaft. i ordered mine on april 16 2016 and still nothing. good luck.

That sucks. I'm confident that I'd still be waiting had I not gone the PayPal claim route. Good luck.
 
My newest excuse was that yes my cage was done but he couldn't make it to the post office today and it is closed until Monday. He had to take his wife to the hospital was the cause this time. I feel like a terrible person for even doubting someone so much that I think he is lying about something like that. Im going to file a claim on paypal, and forget about it. He always has a small excuse to keep stringing you along
