As "non-crawler R/C" as it gets

So I thinned out the R/C garage this year to a low single-digit number of only the favoritest of favorites and was feeling good about the effort. Then I made it through Black Friday, Cyber Monday, 12 Days of Christmas, Green Monday, Taco Tuesday, and every other R/C sales promotion this season without being tempted into buying ANYTHING. Much patting of self on back, impressive willpower, great job everyone.

Then yesterday an ebay 15% off coupon pops up and suddenly there's an F1 kit on it's way to my house. DOH!

I can see you're very disappointed, but wait! This wasn't a complete failure of impulse control because it's been in the back of my mind since stumbling across it weeks ago on RCmart. Before then I was completely unaware of it's existence, which is the point of this thread. Meet the 3Racing Sakura FGX2018 1/10 Formula 1 EP car! Most R/C F1's are like simple pan cars, but check out all that neat engineering. I won't do a build thread unless I get really weird with it (which isn't out of the question :twisted, just wanted to show off a cool non-crawler that people here might not be aware of.

I actually have an idea for doing a weird build with it, but if nothing else I just want to check out a different type of car and tinker with that suspension. At $125 shipped (with ebay discount), it's a cheap experiment.

Nice. Does it need a low profile servo or would a standard size fit? I checked the manual online but it's not clear on that.

Must use a low profile servo. Gets a little tight for space under the body.

Here are pics of mine. Only spun it up in the basement so I have no idea how it will run in the open yet.

Welp, I got a little weird with it. :mrgreen: This doesn't really warrant a build thread so just a couple summary posts to share how things went.

First of all, the car went together without any issues. The fit of everything and the quality of the plastics was average. About what you might expect for the price. It seems like most of that money must go to paying for the trick suspension engineering, because it is very cool! Another positive is there was almost no gear noise despite multiple gears in an open gearbox. It is surprisingly smooth.

Now the weird part. Unlike 1:10 touring cars, it has an 11" wheelbase and is about 7" wide. You know what else has those odd dimensions? This Jconcepts body!

The original intention was to use the whole body but it covered up so much of the chassis that you couldn't really tell it was an F1 car, so I ended up only using the cab. This was my first Jconcepts body and I was impressed with the quality of the decals.

It was fun to see it all come together but I don't have a good place to run it so instead of ending up with yet another shelf queen, I put it up on ebay. On to the next project. Hopefully seeing this will inspire someone else to try something different too. I love these odd builds.

Hell yes. This could be a good chassis for it too. The front wing and nose section comes off with one screw, and then what's left of the front of the chassis stops about even with the front of the tires.

Don't tempt me. I'm already trying to build a TRX-4 Sport Kit that I haven't even received yet and an SMT10 monster truck for which I'm gathering parts. :lmao:
