AX10 KIT (AX90001)
SCX10 KIT (AX90007)
I've been looking at both of these and know that most people will say they need upgrading before competition. What I would like to know is what the main differences are between the two. The Axial web site really doesn't break them down the same way. If I understand, the AX10 is better suited to crawling and the SCX is more scale oriented and may not have the articulation or needed to crawl. As crawling is my main desire am I right to think the AX10 is the way to go?
Thanks for the info

You got it right. The SCX10 is the Scale kit, the AX10 is more suited for competition use.

Thanks for the info.

Now off to find a good place to buy an AX10 that can supply good support, upgrades and pricing.

Support a vendor here on the site, TCS or RPP are both great stores with outstanding customer service and prices.

The Ax10 rtr is a good pick if your on a budget but if you buy a kit and want good electronics for it you'll easily have $800-$1000 into it. I recommend the kits but if your on a budget the ax10 rtr it the way to go.

Off the top of my head. The scx has a longer chassis, slipper clutch, shorter shocks smaller tires more scale look. Ax10 more comp ready/crawler ability.

So will I be able to use the ax10 shocks (longer) with the scx frame kit?

doubt it scorpion shocks are much longer then the scx ones i got both they only share tranny ,shafts, and axles but then you can do what ever you want and make it happen

The SCX10 is more of a truck with a truck type ladder frame. It looks great and can handle rough terrain but not big obstacles.

AX10 is a crawler with twin vertical plates chassis. It can climb much bigger rocks.

As for the shocks, they are different lengths and Axial makes upgrade shocks for both AX10 and SCX10, so you've got to buy the right ones for the right rig.

Not to hijack this post but Im having trouble deciding on the AX10 or SCX10. Not going to compete but want something to run around 30 acres of land. Plenty of dirt bike trails, dirt hills, and a big creek bed w/ lots of loose rocks 1'x'1 in size roughly and smaller. Not many rocks over that size. Which would be my best bet in terrain like this? Im new to crawlers, moving over from nitro years ago.

Ohhh shucks. Just when I was eagerly looking at the SCX10. How long have you had the SCX10 ? Where did u test it ? Any videos of it as u say not being able to handle big obstacles ? Sorry if I sound desperate. Geeez, thanks for the tips Bro.

For what the SCX-10 is, its still very capable.

One reason the AX-10 can handle bigger obstacles is because it is bigger.

AX10 has a longer wheelbase of 12.5, SCX is only 11.3
AX10 has bigger tires 5" tall for the AX10 and 4.25" tall for the SCX10
AX10 is also wider sitting at about 10.25" wide, SCX10 is about 9" wide

Granted you could change everything on the SCX10 to get to the same size as the AX10 but it still wont be quite as capable. The SCX10 will still have the heavier ladder style chassis causing the Center of Gravity to be a little higher. The SCX10 will also have less articulation.

If you like the look of a more Realistic vehicle get the SCX-10. If your looking for maximum performance and not worried about Scale realism get the AX10.

Lastly a Video. Both FJ's are SCX-10's and also 1 stock bodied SCX-10. They are mostly stock with the exception of some weight in the front wheels.http://www.vimeo.com/3411421

Good Luck with your purchase.
