Axial LED Question

I have a old model dingo with LED's. One of my rear tail lights broke off right at the base so I can't solder to it. I have searched and can't figure out if I can just throw any clear red led on or if I need a led that can handle a specific voltage. This is probly a really dumb question. Thanks in advance

I just grabbed some LED from RadioShack that were 5mm and they worked fine. They were clears, but should work for red too.
