Axial SCX10 ii review by Holmes Hobbies

Standard motor rotation. I would choose a 13t Crawlmaster or 27t-30t TorqueMaster for my personal rig. Well, I only run Crawlmaster so thats what mine will be.

I am running 16T Crawlmaster Experts on 3S and love it in the SCX10.2, Super smooth with that pop you need to get up on rocks when needed. "thumbsup"
 
I have the 13t crawlmaster pro on my M-80 Truggy, running on 3s, it climbs like nothing else I have, its an amazing rig mainly due to the exceptional control given by the 13t crawlmaster pro. I will be putting one in my scx10ii when I get it later this month..
 
When you guys go with a lower turn (13 or 16t) on 3s are you gearing down? How much? I am running a TM 40t, stock gearing and 3s.

Can I ask how much different a 35t would be verses 30t or 27 brushed?
I have roc412's and want brushed for my scx-10. I want HH but LHS has a tekin 37t on hand now.
 
I am runnig the crawlmaster 13t & BRXL stock gearing and my esc is running about 20 degrees warmer then the motor. I am still not HOT by any means, but it is just something i have noticed on the 3 test runs i have had so far.
 
Also need to say, the motor&esc is perfect for the new gear reduction transmission. The bottom end is like honey and the WOT is quiet fast, unlike the 1st gen.

mine is geared between 5 and 6 to 1....dont remember the exact ratio, but I gear all my crawlers in that range..

there is a bit of difference between the 35t and the 27t or 30t..not alot, but you can notice it...i have all three, a 2t7t,30t and 35t. my personal favorite is the 30t...just right for me on the trails or in the rocks..for what its worth, I have found that the 27t is better for trails and the 35t is better for rocks..

I think the HH Crawlmaster motors have 5-slot armatures. Meaning they produce less speed and more torque in relation to the turn count. Feel free to correct me, but I think I read somewhere a 13t 5-slot is equivalent to a 35t regular (3-slot) motor.
 
I appreciate that. I wondered why JRH was recommending 13t. I'm guessing the 5 slot is more smooth running at low speeds? I am running the HH BRXL/40t for the first time and it is by far the smoothest running ESC I've used yet. I wish I understood all the benefits of the settings in the Castle Link, but I'm tinkering.

The "smaller" carrier bearings actually look to have bigger balls... Also from the pics on the Axial site it looks like the inner pinion bearing is now bigger?


My main area of concern is the front axle gears being driven on the coast side. Typically in the 1:1 world that's why you don't just build a high pinion rear axle with a gear set from a font axle, you need a reverse cut gear set to drive on the drive side for strength. Who knows though, may be a total non-issue in the 1:10 scale.
 
Hahns, you are correct that the new ring bearings have larger balls. I was told yesterday that they have a higher load rating. The inner pinion bearing is also huge. I'm going to try and cover all this in the next video, so many little details that are showing up.

I don't know if gear issues will crop up. The mesh is fantastic, the sliding force is almost undetectable, and every part of the bearing and housing is beefier. Maybe I throw in big brushless just to break stuff?

This is correct. Except the 13t is more like a 27t in speed 16t crawlmaster is closest to a 35t
 
Just finished assembling the transmission, and it is far less bulky than my original impression. 140 grams with no slipper compared to 110 grams for the OG transmission with plastic case, no slipper , metal gears + chromoly out drives. An ounce of weight to get centered driveshafts and a more balance motor position? Seems like a good call in my book. I will be using the stock transmission for sure.

Would you recommend the Pro Puller 540 2200kv and 3S Lipo for this kit? Thinking getting buying that! :)
 
It seems like a good combo to me. A Stubby would be plenty too, depends on the final weight and drag brake needs. 540 is always safer choice, just easier to break parts. Keep the slipper.

It also puts the motor lower than a forward mount can be. If we think about modding the rig for a 2200mah pack, the tranny can be rotated to shift the weight bias up further.

With no battery, the weight bias is 50/50 as stock. I feel like I have to try a huge pack up front to start. Hours of playtime.

I run 2200's and I originally assemble trans per the instructions and liked it okay. I pulled it out and dropped the old SCX trans in. I wanted to flip the trans just because it seemed more natural forward. I figured Axial had there reasons, but then one of the guys in the forum had his flipped and I decided to figure out how to make it work. Now I really love the look and at least for me the trans moves smoother. In reverse mine still seems to have a buzz to it.

I absolutely love the HH BRXL. Smoothest Esc I've ever owned. I'm running a 40t but I think I'll pick up a 16t Crawlmaster when I get the slush fund built back up. "thumbsup"
