Not yet. Trying to get my Carbon straight axle done and off the bench.
Long weekend ahead so hoping to get back on it.
Well the Optic has been on hold for long enough! It’s back on the bench to get some much needed wrenching done to it.
Here’s how it sits now. I’ve been struggling to come up with a paint scheme and livery to go with the blue cage.
So to get this build moving on, I’m going to put this blue cage on hold and use the sock nylon black cage for now. It’ll get the same treatment as I recently gave my Capra build. More on that later.

Yeah I agree. There is a lot of blue there. I initially intended for it to be a lighter shade of blue, but I left it in the dye too long. Rookie mistake!
Down the road I may do some sort of red, white and blue themed livery.
I like what you did with the cage! Those graphics are gonna look great with those wheels, especially with the red on the shocks

Progress had been slow lately, but was able to get some interior work done during the long holiday weekend. Happy July 4th
Started out using the Knight Customs Optic interior and sand rail buggy driver 3D prints. It took some carving and hacking on the driver seat to get driver to fit. I wanted to keep him fully intact as much as possible. Since the whole driver side door area was removed, I had to scab in a piece of styrene to hold the front screw mount.
Painted and topped with a matte clear coat. As with many of my other builds, I used a cheap Walmart craft paint to add the details. To protect the water based paint, I sprayed a couple coats of Rustoleum matte clear coat.
Mr. Driver held in with some E6000 adhesive.

Bolted in the interior to see how it looks. It turned out better than I expected and should look great with the exterior panels.

On the up side should he get itchy nuts, he just needs to sink down a few inches to get scratched. lmao

I seriously don't understand how you get such great pics with an iPhone! Your cage looks wrinkle painted rather than molded plastic in your lates photos.

I’ve always had great luck with the iPhones picture taking ability. They were always known for their high quality pics and videos.
The cage is actually painted with a textured paint. I did the same paint treatment on my Capra build recently. Check out this post here for more info:

Worked on mounting the headlights. I decided not to use a grille and just mount the MEUS headlights to a piece of aluminum I bent to match the contour of the cage behind the front bumper. I tucked them in under the hood. I think this style of light looks better mounted by itself rather than mounting them in the stock grille.
That does look really good.
