Battery connector opinions

Fake traxxas plugs on everything here.
They are easy to plug/unplug while providing a large contact area, you can't reverse the polarisation, and most importantly, they're the only ones where you can take the metal tabs out for soldering without ****ing up the plastic part.
I had a plane that came with XT60s, swapped that out, those are a bitch to unplug.

Genuine Amass connectors should come with those insulators...mine did.

Not all Amass XT60 connectors come with those sleeves. You can get genuine ones with or without them.

I was looking around for insulator caps for XT60's and came across these. They are used instead of heatshrink. Look an easier way to cover the soldered ends.

Those are AMass "XT60H" plugs. They are very nice but it sucks when you finish soldering the plug on and look down and see the cap setting on the bench. Don't ask me how I know.

It's a similar feeling to seeing that piece of shrink wrap on the table that you swore you slid over the wire before soldering.

I have been debating on changing from to Deans to XT60's for a while now. I have been putting it off because I wasn't sure if the XT60's were that much better. And wasn't looking forward to resoldering all of my many batteries and ESC's.

Well after reading all of these posts, my mind it made up. XT60's seem like the way to go. Going to start switching mine out this weekend. So glad I started reading this thread. Thanks guys!;-)

I avoid the versions with the snap on cap because the entire connector assembly becomes huge once you snap the cover on both ends. When you build something with limited space for electronics, that big chunk of connector plastic takes up as much space as a Castle BEC. Using shrink tubing makes the whole assembly much, much smaller.

I don't use these covers because they are sometimes difficult or even impossible to use with heavier gauge wires. At least that's been my experience.

I like Traxxas plugs over XT60 because they are easier to unplug, but I'm switching most of my stuff over to XT60. XT60 are much easier to solder (especially if using a BEC), lots of batteries available with XT60s on them, plus they are cheap and readily available. Traxxas seems to be phasing out the standard connector in favor of the ones with built in balancing wires and from what I have heard, they are not going to be selling the standard connectors much longer. I have had mixed results with the cheap knockoff connectors. Some of them are pure garbage and will not lock into the plastic even with no wires soldered to them.

Interesting...I've found the XT60's much easier to unplug. Can even do them one handed. Try that with a Traxxas plug. ;-)

I have been running the XT-60's since just after Hobby King first started making them years ago. Tough now I am running XT-30's.
