Battery relocation ?

Hey Guys, new to scale rigs.

I'm using the standard 6 cell Batt. And was wanting to get it lower for center of gravity. Has anyone done a mod or relocated one? Could use some help. Any ideas welcome.
 
Just cut the body support posts under the battery tray. It will lower it a good amount and help lcg. Good luck
 
I relocated mine right behind the front shock hoops

didn't use and brackets myself. just zip-tied two velcro straps that I had laying around (normally used to bundle wires together, like for computer desk areas), and it holds the battery in very firmly! one zip-tie passes through a small slot I cut in the velcro strap and wraps around the frame rail on the bottom, and the other zip tie loops through the shock hoop

seems to have really helped the COG get a LOT lower "thumbsup"
 
I did something a tad different but just about the same thing,

Moved the Esc to a home made platform over the transmission, then drilled some holes in the battery plate and rx box and bolted the plate to box and presto!

If you run a chassi mount servo like a Hand Bro kit, then you can mount the battery plate right on the frame cross member. It has to mount high with a axle mounted servo so that it will clear the servo when the axle pushes/flexs upwards. But when the servo is mounted to the side frame rail then you can trim the stock battery plate and drill some new mounting holes. It makes a huge difference. You can see in these pics that I trimmed the battery plate to fit around the servo but still be able to use the velcro straps. I then just drilled new mounting holes and screwed it to the holes already in the cross brace. This was the first effort and I am actually changing it a bit. but the only difference is I am making a plate that is wider in the back to mount the esc and receiver on. It has to be moved a bit further forward to as the battery like it is in these pics hits the dash on my NewBright JK. So I am just going to make a new plate that has what I need.

Thanks for the replies, But I actually set here and decided to do the same thing as federally did. Only thing diferent was I used velcro to mount my esc on the rx top. One question federally, Is your trans in backwards, or did you mount your radio in the rear? My clutch adjustment faces the rear.
 
i did the same thing as superbleeder did and it works awesome, but thats the 2nd time i changed it. first time i cut the batt tray spacers in half and wasnt a fan of it as i didnt see any difference in performance wise over stock... only thing is my tires hit the battery every once in a while...oh well

you must be running 2.2s. mine have plenty of room on 1.9s

Yeah I have a pretty long motor and when I first put it all together with the Esc sitting where my battery is now the motor can didn't let my Sidewinder fit so I mirrored the trans. :thumbsup:

I was originlly going to attach my Esc to the top of the box like you plan, however I didn't have enough wire to connect it to the motor from that far away so I had to figure something else out.

Putting the battery where mine is or the other guys' examples of similar mount locations makes a huge difference. It centers your sprung weight and lowers it considerably. The change in the trucks balance on rock was noticeable and significant!

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I hope I'm typing this in right, haha. Anyway, hey federally, how does your mounting position of the battery perform? I understand having more weight over the front helps but I've never seen your set up and like to try it.

As I said in my earlier post, I did the same thing as federally, but mounted my ESC on top of the RX box. It definitely climbs better and rolls over a lot less than stock when getting one side higher then the other. I've been very happy with the setup.
