Stu (MG) started a k5 build off on scale 4x4, I have enough parts laying around so I thought I'd join in. I ordered a k5 body from corey at RPP, super fast shipping, and started masking it on saturday... hours later, of trying to get it the best I could, I started painting..

I masked off the top as if it were a slightly newer blazer, depending on how far I go with this, it may just get a full blown interior with a simple cage and bench seat in the back, so a removable top will be necessary "thumbsup"

something I noticed with the few that I have scene painted, is everyone is leaving out the chrome trim that separates the two tone, so I made sure I masked that in "thumbsup" its not *perfect* but it looks pretty good .

I also sharpie marker'd in the details, I think it looks good like this. I got a lil shakey in a spot or two so I need to get some trinity body blast and do it over  BUT this weekend I went to my LHS and found huge ORANGE signs all over it that said "SEIZED" by the state NY for taxes  so now I dont know what I am going to do :-(

I cut the grill out to like MG, but I need a regular clod grill still (anyone?)

I have had a new BB51 chassis kit from Ben and a TLT kit since march...figured I better build something up, was original going to be a Bronco but this k5 body is to sweet

I need to get some straight axles and maybe some of those new scale white shocks from Hua, and I am hoping some people still come through with the parts from the classifieds.

Thats it for now. Thanks for looking

-Mike

1.9's forever !"thumbsup" I love the leafs too. Nice start, I will get you some more parts.

I am also converting everything over to 1.9's as well. I like your start, cannot wait to see where you go with it.

holy chit that looks great. I love the detail in the stripe you added with the silver to seperate the two. The stance with those tires also looks great as well. I may just have to get me one of these bodies and build up a K5. Keep up the work Mike.

those tires look great on there, but for the silver stip on it thats great, it needs the black line within that silver as well. i really like the half top paint, and it looks funny with the vent window painted yellow, you should take a harpie to that too. just constructive criticism here, i want you to win!

Finally I can share something with the expert... :)

Hit the hardware store and grab some Denatured Alcohol. Takes the sharpie right off. No problemo.

Great work so far "thumbsup"

What vent window? I dont know my K5s to well, are you talking about the triangle windows up front? I know about the black line in the middle of the molding...thats freakin TINY! Ill see if I can find some ultra thing pin stripping

looks awesome! the yellow may be a bit bright for the period, but sweet none-the less. VERY cool. as for the grill what about some of the styrene or cutout mesh custom grills ive seen guys do?
may i suggest maybe using a "ultra fine" tip sharpie when you redo it...

Not sure yet, its not where it needs to be in the pics, you can see it is off. I will let ya know when its rolling

looks great. glad i didnt go ahead and get yellow for mine.lol going red and black.

haha yea, I wanted a mustard yellow, but short of custom mixing a color, this was the best I could find

Probably closer to 11".

Looks killer Mike "thumbsup" I just got my K5 bodies in the mail today from RPP. Cant wait to get home from work and check them out!!

yeah the triangley windows up front, right by where mirrors would be. you can see where mine is flat black.

also for that pinstripe, i found some from pactra in 1/32, i had to buy a bunch of different sizes but it was there. that should be perfect

Looks good. Every third driveway has a ole yella bronco in it ;)

What works great for lining is the COLORED sharpie markers. For example you could use a dark orange or light brown on yellow. It's more subtle and doesn't show "shaky-hands" as much because or the reduced contrast.

Here's the official sharpie site: http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Product/Sharpie_Fine_Point_Permanent_Marker.html
