Been Crawling for awhile now, and am starting to gather up some parts to dive into FOFF. Was wondering what input you all have on Bead lock Rims vrs. Glue on type rims.

just my opinion here, but I like the glue on. The beadlocks are adding alot of extra weight that you dont need. And depending on how much wheel speed you have, the beadlocks don't like to hold all that well. Just my opinion.

i like beadlocks as for the added weight atleast it isnt on your chassis
nothing but bad luck with tire glue it destroyes your rims, never stays stuck and if you balance your tires your screwed cause it never will stay balanced with glue.
i run 1/10 4wd drift unlimited class and i wish they made beadlocks for them. even with my carbonfibre chassis and parts id be willing to add the weight.

I run Jconcepts 2.2 beadlocks and the weight difference between them and an RPM revolver is negligible when there in your hand, I don't have an accurate scale to actually find out. They dont like holding onto my Sandpaws at all though. The Panthers on the back stay on great "thumbsup" I'm on 3s VXL system

You want more unsprung weight with crawling to help keep those diffs following the terrain, so beadlocks add a little weight, which is good. I find on a regular basis I change foams and also have to drain my foams of water that has got in through the breather holes, so beadlocks help from that aspect too. Beadlocks are also a reassurance that your tire won't come off the rim even in the most extreme conditions. I can't see any advantages to gluing tires for crawlers.

I like beadlocks because I can clean out the sand and water that accumulates in the tires. Just my personal preference though.

I don't think you realized this question was posted in the FOFF forum, not the crawling section. Yes, in crawling you want the unsprung weight, in FOFF and anything for that matter that is going fast, you DON'T want unsprung weight or rotating mass. So you want to keep your wheels and tires as light as possible. For the convienence of not having to glue tires I don't see too much of a disadvantage in running a plastic beadlock that is lightwight such as JConcepts or Axial or even some VP SLW's. Another advantage in running beadlocks is that you can open them up and clean out the sand that accumulates from coming in through your vent holes. For me the advantages of running lightweight beadlocks outweights the disadvantage of a small increase in unsprung/rotational weight.

After destroying 4 sets of glue on wheels on my foff, I had to start running some widened delrin beadlocks I had here. I broke multiple wheels, both hex and rim, of Traxxas, Proline, and HPI wheels. I have yet to have any issue with my slightly heavier delrin beadlocks.

Almost got my fof build done, out of spare crawler parts"thumbsup". I've been trying to decide myself between axial beadlocks and old wheelyking wheels, because that's what I already have:mrgreen:. The beadlocks look to be exactly 1oz heavier per wheel. I will probably try the wheelykings and just see how long they last. It won't be stupid fast yet, just going to try a 500 puller, mamba max, sandpaws and 3s, because that's what I have laying around:mrgreen:

So sometime in the near future I can expect to see beadlocks for racing use in buggies and truggies in the worlds?????
Can I get the first set please???

OK for FOFF use, where tires don't wear that fast, beadlocks might just have an advantage over glue.

Personally I haven't had a tire come loose in my little 20 years of rcing even in the harshest racing conditions.
27grams or even 4 grams is considerable weight for a wheel.

@ Tim the toolman. I used wheely king wheels while looking around for beadlocks. the wheels hex's strip very easily. ended up using jb weld to hold the hex in the wheel. still didn't last long, the plastic is too soft.

Thanks Mitch. I should've mentioned that, they are already stripped & glued:). So I don't expect them to last too long, we'll see what happens. Especially now, since I couldn't get that mambamax to arm, so I robbed the vxl out of the rustler:shock:8)
