In a "right timing" moment, I picked up sally1800's old Beast Mode chassis. It was a little worse for wear... a couple of body mount nuts missing & spare tire carrier broken off... but nothing structurally compromised. So far I've done a 80% rebuild: new panels, Wraith donor parts swapped over, etc. There's a few issues to resolve, like longer rear MIP shafts, dialing in links, new shocks, battery that fits, and few other minor things.

Any tuning tips, build advice, etc, that the rest of you Beast owners may have, would be greatly appreciated!"thumbsup"

For now, a few pics of what came out of the box (sitting on top of its donor), and how it sits now.

you can just donate this to the I want one fund at my mailbox "thumbsup" these are really cool, cant wait to see how this one turns out,

looks good!!!! you are going to love it. I cant wait to see this old girl running again. welcome to the beast family.

Well, that didn't last long! Put some electronics in... stock Axial ESC & RX with a glitch buster, Savox 1230SG servo, and a vintage Trinity Speedworks Monster Mash 17T motor... gave it a quick run in the driveway, and then the magic smoke escaped!

Vintage motors DO NOT like 2S Lipo power! Whoops! How vintage, you ask? It came out of my Tamiya King Cab, I bought new in 1989!! It ran when I tested it, but not much longer after that.

On the up side, it seemed to float over the chop, and everything moved & cycled smoothly! I can't wait to get this beastie up & running properly!!

Doc, Dan W, UPSrat... Any advice on motor & esc combos? Transmission is going to be replaced by a Super Shafty unit, so I'm looking for a set up that will give me the grunt & go-fast for U4 stuff, but still be fairly simple & reliable. At least more reliable than that old Trinity was! :lmao:

I use the RX8/Pro 4 4000. 60 spur / 11 pinion. And that is FAST enough for our track and the norcal track. "thumbsup"

RX8, no need for a bec "thumbsup"

Thanks! I was unaware of that feature with the RX8. Every build, up to this point, has been Castle ESC, motor & BEC combos, so this will be my first Tekin equipped rig. Definitely looking forward to it! "thumbsup"

The RX8 has a built in one like the others but its works better then the others.

Every other esc I have used I used a external bec.

I ran no extra bec in the beast. Rx8 "white model" with pro4 3300 and 7950

Never a problem"thumbsup"

After a few test fits with different batteries, I've had to go back & rework the right side panel. It's now cut into front & back sections (Exo style), so it's easily removed, to aid in battery installation/swaps.

Both side panels have been reworked, so they now extend "bumper to bumper," to give a bit more real estate for paint work. And speaking of paintwork...
I came across this while searching 1:1 rigs for ideas:
It's damn near the identical shape, and it's even named "The Beast!" 8)

I took a little creative freedom with the hood lines...a bit more curve to them. Pretty amazed that the center stripes on the hood & roof are dead-on lined up!
