Anyone here us or have a benchmade knife? I'm thinking of getting one since the town I live in is getting worse and worse, I am only 19 so I can't carry a pistol yet so I need something to protect myself and my girlfriend. There is a lot of scary crap going on these days and I'm not afraid to protect myself or my girlfriend and family, so I think it's time I get a knife that won't fold up on my hand if I go to use it

Mmmmmm... My kinda thread...

One.. I see this reasoning as a last resort, as for what ur getting a knife for..

2, there are tons of options for a good "self defense knife" out there other then benchmade knives.. by all means not that there is anything wrong with benchmade. They are a very nice knife..

What kind of knife are you looking for? Otf, ots auto, thumb open, self assist(spring loaded), fixed blade, butterfly?... Blade type?

Yes this would be only if I was backed up against a wall with like 3 guys surrounding me and my girlfriend, if I was alone ehh, i don't really care about me as much as my mother or sister or girlfriend lol. We have ms13's running around our town now and those little punks are stupid, they can't fight alone there has to be 3+ of them...anyways I do understand I wouldn't use a knife on someone unless it was a last resort....soo anyways I like spring assisted, or thumb open, small, sits low in the pocket, and normal blade because I open packages, and stuff with knifes usually, I'm going to a tech school so I don't want my knife to stick out like a sore thumb eith, and I'm right handed if that maddens any lol

Benchmade is a good knife. Mtost of theirs dont stikout to bad. Even the one that I carryed. It was thick and was technikly speeking a switch blade, push button open.
By the way I always carried my Army ID card and thats how I was covered to not get arrested.

Benchmade is a good choice, be sure to spend the extra and get one made in the USA. If you're wanting this for protection, same rules as with pistols applies, practice with it or it will probably be used on you.

I'm not much of a knife guy, but the stuff DwaneO makes is absolutely gorgeous. If I was to buy something, he would be the first place I looked. Not sure how they would be for self defense, but that's not the reason I would want one:

Oliver Knives - Home

I'll second C*H*U*D's recommendation of Dwaneo's knives.
Can be found here: Oliver Knives - Home

I just purchased my first Benchmade knife about three months ago. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about these knives.
Excellent construction, good materials, right size to fit in my jeans pocket, and is staying VERY sharp.
Here is the one I purchased: Cabela's: Benchmade® D2 Steel Plain Blade Mini-Griptilian Knives

I have also carried Gerber knives in the past. Had good luck with them, but they are a disposable knife. Price reflects that.
Cabela's: Gerber® F.A.S.T. Draw™ Knives

I have a custom "RCC" Oliver knife that looked great until after the first time I went camping with it. The blade got rust on it almost immediately and I have not been able to get rid of it.

I've had benchmade knives for years which have been great quality with no rust issues at all.

Ok, last question then a rant.. lol..
Are you dead set on benchmade?
Is there reason behind it if so? Like.. cause its a top name in the industry?

Ok now this. From what you are saying, I would point you at a gerber applegate/fairbairn mini covert. Great all around knife, small, sits deep in pocket, snappy thumb open, linear lock.. it won't close up in ur hand.
Another great little piece I have that fits the build is a CKRT hissatsu 2, an boy is it nasty! Snaps open in a heart beat, sharp, an pointy. Old ninja style blade.
Which moves me to this.. I have a ton of CKRT knives. Most are made by military, martial artists, survival an self defense experts.
You want names, descriptions or pics let me know..
Kershaws are a sweet breed as well. Favorite is the Leek... Then chive, I found the blur to be a little big in The pocket but a good looking knife.

As for auto knives... Burntnut, its not the military Id that got you the pass.. cops are very tricky an hold this secret with A death grip!
A Otf or auto knife Is LEGAL for anyone! Anyone with a concealed carry permit, that is! Auto knives are in the same group as a pistol....

Last thing for fantasy thinking.. it doesn't fit the low key edc(every day carry) description your looking for, but if I where looking for a self defense knife an could find one on the for sale section, Lmao, I would have a Spyderco civilian in my pocket! Talk bout grin from ear to ear an when you open that sucker, anyone looking at it knows it means Business! (Wish I could figure out "linking" stuff)

Last but not least.. money not an issue.. looking for the top names out there.. my favorite edc, in my pocket no matter what, great look, feel, etc.. Microtech kestrel...
You can get a sweet Protec knife, tho not many thumb open to pick from. Mostly auto..

I checked out Oliver knives mention above as well, very nice looking knives...

Main thing to look for in any knife is the steel used. Some of the better steels are CPM S30V, ZDP 189 laminate, O1, D2. Others that will cost less are AUS8, 440C, VG10. Just do some research and if you want something that will last figure $60-200, handmade custom folders will run up to $500.

Kershaw, CRKT, bench made, glock, and cold steel all make great knives. The glock knife, model 81, is huge but will take a beating. I'm a fan of CRKT, they look nice and function well. The CRKT wasp, my carry knife, it Ti but has a crappy blade.

What kind of tech school are you at that doesn't like knives? I'm all my classes we often use knives and firearms as examples.

I like those Oliver knifes but yes I'm pretty much dead set on bench made knifes because I like the style that they are and I'm not trying to break the bank on a custom knife I just need a good all around American made knife. Not something made in china.

Well the tech school I'm going to has HVAC that's the class I'm going to, I don't really know a lot on their knife laws but I don't want to push the subject.

Raw onion.

Stab the (large) raw onion, move the blade in and out a couple of times and let sit overnight. Buff with a (oily) rag. Repeat when necessary.

Well looks like its between kershaw, and bench made. I want an all American company because I'm an American and anything made in America is just....amazing lol. Ill have to look into some spring assisted kershaws because I like that kind but I want an all American company as well

looks like some manufacturing is done in USA, Japan and China.

Agreed... As is with crkt knives.. I have a "few" of them, kershaw too, there made in Taiwan, China, an U.S.A.. all designed in America..
Sog knives, same thing, one in 2 from Taiwan, 2 from seki city..
I truely think ur just looking for a pocket knife, not a self defense knife.. ur limiting ur options heavily on American made.. I'm for my country but not all things American made are worth the stamp. I mean look at are car companies.. lol.. Hell I own a Harley an half my American made bike is made else where.. look at Harley apparel, all stamped from China or somewhere.. yet its for an American made company.. just something to think bout..
