Ok I have been doing some digging on building a cage or a tube buggy or even just maybe some accessories (bumpers and what not) and I have seen several different materials being used. I was wondering if there was any +'s or -'s to what is actually used.

What does everyone prefer?

I have seen.....

Brake lines (automotive)
steel rod (I assume it's the stuff from Home Depot)
1/8" Music wire (not sure what this is or where to get it)
........

I used 3/16" rod 1/8" rod (music wire) both can be found at home depot or Lowes. I like using it because I Mig welded. If you are going to braze then I would use brakeline and there is great information on this board how to do it...Good Luck buy extra material and have fun...

Ditto, I can't braze so I weld. "thumbsup"

Any of the above would be great for it.....although the brake tube is easier to manipulate how you want it. I should really learn how to braze some day .

You can MIG brakeline too.....

Well I use brake line and I silver solder. Same thing as regular soldering except for you use a silver solder such as Harris Safety Silv and you need hotter temps.

I can create nice smooth joints in seconds with a good map torch. No filing and sanding needed to clean up the joints.

Well that is JIAs rig and yes it is one tough rig. But seriously who is going to drive over their rigs with a 1.1 on purpose except for this video?

Brake line will be more then strong enough for any rc crawler smaller then 1/4 scale.

Awesome guys this is the exact kind of responses I was looking for!

I will take all these into consideration when I go to buy my supplies.

See I was thinking steel rod so i can just weld it all up but if you say I can weld brake lines maybe I pick some of that up instead!

I used 3/16 and 1/8 mild steel tubing.

You can MIG brakeline too.....
Brake line is soft. It will get bent if not supported properly.

3/16 and 1/8 give a very scale appearance.
