As anyone else heard or seen a set of Boss Wheels Corrode? I have a set of 20in'er on my truck and the inside under the tires. Is corroded so bad it has eat away the metal from the inside out. The Opening at the Value stem is weak and leaking. The bead surface is pitting and leaking bad. I can air the tire up to 45lbs and it will be flat in 24hrs. 3 out of the 4 I have are like this...

I had the tire broke down not to long ago and saw them. I have never seen anything like this before. And I busted tires at Pepboys for 8yrs.

I sent an E-mail to Boss and never heard back. I sent another one. Stating I was going to take Pic's and send a story about the problem to every Mag. out. Sent that E-Mail Saturday.. Got an E-mail today..

I'm trying to find others who have had this problem. Special this brand.

I have seen lots of OE wheels do that but not so much with aftermarket... And the ones I have seen was mostly due to Mag Chloride that they spray on all the roads in the winter. That stuff is like acid on alloy wheels.

The Outside (Face) and the backside look fine. It's all under the Tire. from bead to bead surface. You can't even tell till you take a tire off.

They are Boss Wheels which is also owned by Eagle Alloy.

These are my Wheels...

If anyone can find someone else having a Problem like this. I need a link to it... Doesn't have to be this style wheel, but at least the Boss or Eagle Brand....

I know salt is bad on them. But salt never touches the inside of my wheel...

What kind of tire lube was used to mount your tires? Maybe there is something in it that doesn't like (or should I say DOES like aluminum)???

I worked in a tire shop for 3 1/2 years and ran into this problem alot,

Some tire compounds dont mix well with aluminum rims or chrome plated alloy rims.

MICHILLIN TIRES & BRIDGESTON TIRES ARE THE WORST! 90 Percent of the time somebody had those 2 tires on their vehical and came in for a slow leak was caused by corrosion between the tire and rim.

Michillin and Bridgestone work good with steel rims, and dont seem to have as much a problem.

Good Year & Cooper tires have a differant compound and don't corrode the rim.

Good Idea when getting new tires ask them to clean the bead of the rim and use bead sealer befor mounting the rim...

the problem could of been caused by FIX-A-SHIT or fix a flat cans. something in the chemicals could of been in the rim, and its only a temp fix, the rim should of been cleaned when the tire was broken down and fixed with a patch.

They are Goodyear tires.

Just got off the phone with Boss motorsports. Some guy named Grant at there st.Louis office. Told me these wheels are for show and not made to be driven daily. He also stated that they need to be cleaned weekly. Not only on the outside but the inside too. So to make the wheels last. Boss tells me to have the tires brokedown weekly to be cleaned. What a joke. Boss told me then they don't warranty the wheels and that the shop I bought them at would do that. So I called the shop. They give me the run around and told me that if Boss won't warranty them ,they can't either. The shop said all they can do is sand the beads down and repaint (seal) them and see if that works.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do next?

Maybe write some magazines and the better bussiness bureau.

:lmao:

Thats a fine line of bs. Was there any paperwork stating that when you bought them? Anything on their website about that stipulation? If not, then I'd say you've got a case.

Otherwise, I'd probably get the insides powedercoated...it'd hold up much better than clearcoat.

Ya it never states anything about needing to break a tire down to clean. I'm taking the wheels back to the Shop and there are going to look at them again.

Did you find Team Integy cast or engraved into the wheels too by chance?

Unless that's normal for the aftermarket rim industry, I don't think I'd want to carry a rim who's manufacturer uses that sort of warranty or materials and sure as hell wouldn't buy them for a personal vehicle!

WHAT A LOAD OF SHIAT!! Anyone who ever has taken a tire off a wheel know every time you take one off there is a possibility of ripping the bead, why the hell would anyone make a wheel let alone buy a wheel that says the tire needs to be removed weekly for cleaning!! That is some of the most piss poor customer service I have ever seen... won't be buying any of their wheels.

That line about breaking the wheels down weekly to clean is just about the biggest line of crap possible. I'll be sure to never buy a product from them. I worked in a tire show at the end of college and the constant breaking down of the tires, not only stresses the tire, but puts more wear on the finish of the wheel itself.

Basically, they don't want to give you wheels, so they're giving you a line of crap.

As for Boss, I have no experience with them, but I have seen far more chrome plated aluminum wheels corrode, especially around the valve stem.

While they look nice and are far easier to keep shiny than polished, I will never buy another set of chromed aluminum wheels after the last set of American Racing wheels had about 3/4 of the chrome let loose from the aluminum.

TOTAL BS! Since they won't warranty them and they are saying they are "for show only" which there is nothing on their site about that,I would contact the National Transportation Safety Board ( NTSB.gov) and give them your story with names, numbers and a link to the rims that you posted.Seems like these rims are an accident waiting to happen. What if one fails while you are driving down the highway?

X2 Been there before ...

BOSS sucks, there's a reason their stuff can be had for so cheap. Sorry I can't help you, everyone I've ever known that has had a set of Boss wheels has sold them within a year of purchase.

Seen it happen. Many times with crappy Chinese steel rims, and a few times with crappy Chinese aluminum ones. Its not pretty.

I don't know if they're still around, but TSW Racing Wheels were the same way. About 10-12 years ago, there was a guy a set of running their wheels on a fairly healthy and very light Omni GLH or GLHS Turbo (maybe 2500lbs with fluids and driver!) and he started to noticed they were all cracking between the bolt holes and the center opening. He did the same as the OP here and they told him that the warranty was void since he has used them on this little car while participating in some track day events.
