Braving the Element

Wish someone made the exact Method 701 wheel in aluminum in the same shade of bronze as the plastic wheels!

The Treals are nice, but not quite the right color - although I will certainly run them at some point.

Yeah, it would be cool if the Method 701 Element plastic wheel was made in aluminum. If you haven't seen them yet, Locked Up RC now makes a wheel that is similar in design they call "Texas Gold". I haven't looked up the price yet, but these wheels sure do look good!

Yeah, first thing I did when LockedUpRC posted that new color was price out a set - and text my buddy that I was thinkin' of rewarding myself using my profit sharing check.

But, I already have SO many wheels and tires, the vast majority not even mounted yet - I probably have 3 sets per vehicle at this point!

Really trying not to buy any more expensive wheels, or any more at all for that matter - but...

I do have a cheap set of HobbySoul beadlocks coming that are a design I have never seen before - a China wheel that is not a copy, AND is genuinely good-looking!

They will get a set of JConcepts Tusks in the 4.75" size - I searched high and low and found some in stock at a mom & pop LHS.

They are currently SOMEWHERE in my damn complex's package locker - I got the delivered notification, but NO code to tell me which locker they are in.

Gonna try to get them tomorrow morning.

Posting up a pic to show @twade984 somethin' about the Ecto rocker/slider design - circled area is the flared bit to strengthen and envelope the front mount for the trailing arms:

Ah yes the trailing arm mounts… thanks for taking a look for me anyway.

Planning on a crawl session tomorrow - first one in AGES!

I'll be checkin' out these JConcepts Tusks, mounted up on budget-friendly HobbySoul wheels that I scored off Amazon - they have the same spokes with milled out pockets design that the FabRats FJ has.

Down in the San Marcos riverbed all alone and then a (blurry) pic w/Miatardo's battered Bronco... (much fun was had!):

Re: Braving the Elements

Looks like a good time! I like the looks of those wheels also. How did you like the tires?

Nice to see the Ecto and you got out for a run!

I too like the looks of them wheels and they look great mounted to the Tusk's!

Thanks, guys!

Even though the RTR General tires are pretty good on the rocks around here, the Tusks were a REVELATION!

Stoopid-sticky...

I've got a lot of upgrade parts that will add a lot of weight down low that I will eventually install - and at that point the stock JConcepts foam will likely need swapping out for something firmer - until then, the rig is light enough to run as is.

My buddy Miatardo and I went to the Texas Crawlfest event in Kendalia -

Re: Braving the Elements

Badass scaling with that trailer home and bridge. Shout out to people who make that stuff.

Yup, looks like a great spot for crawling. The scale trailer and bridge are well done. I always appreciate seeing that stuff in photots

Looks like good times at Texas Crawlfest! Nice pics.

I've been seeing many pics on the social with the trailer in them. Also saw some pics from Josh at RCeverday too. Looks like a great time!

Yeah, Josh was there this year and last year, I spent some time checking out his customs.

He now sells a custom chassis to build your own!

I think he's the only YouTuber I've ever met, very nice guy.

Got totally wiped from doing the full trail during the day, tried running the night trail but just was too much, I'm so out of shape and my age is catching up to me, I fell a couple times, broke my fall but dropped my radio.

I have yet to make changes to that Ecto other than wheel and tires - it's gonna get a FlySky rx so that I can use my tx with a lanyard, no more worries about dropping radios!

Well, that's gonna be the least of my upgrades by the time I am done.

It doesn't have any lighting yet, either - that sure didn't help during the night run attempt!

I had a LED lamp in my shirt pocket pointing forward that was helping a little, but I turned around and drove back to the main area and parked my truck and my ass for the evening, while Miatardo ran the whole thing in his Cross Demon.

He ran the daytime run in his TRX-4 classic Bronco, on a set of Thornbirds that are nearly completely worn-out. Did really good for such a big and heavy truck!

It was fun, but I am paying for it now, totally wiped out even with a day of rest behind me.

Ecto has a new wheel and tire set to try out, Pro-Line Treps with an all-silver set of those HobbySoul Chinese wheel - stuffed with Injora silcone rubber inserts - the setup weighs a TON, which should help crawling performance:
